Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston Texas 335 PM CDT Friday may 24 2013 Discussion... southeast Texas is currently under partly cloudy skies with temperatures around 90 degrees. The mesoscale convective system currently near ih-35 appears to be stalling out. Another mesoscale convective system further south near Corpus Christi appears that it might make it into Jackson County. This will depend upon how much coverage out in front of the system there is as multiple cold pool interactions could stall out the mesoscale convective system. The upper level weakness out in West Texas will continue to push eastwards tomorrow and will provide a slight chance of rain through the weekend. Forecast soundings are not impressive Saturday and Sunday as cape and precipitable water values are limited. Monday and Tuesday of next week appears to be mostly dry with near normal temperatures as soundings dry out. On Wednesday an upper level trough will begin to approach the area from the west. The GFS is more progressive with the feature than the European model (ecmwf). The GFS also pulls the system farther north and keeps precipitation chances limited across southeast Texas. The European model (ecmwf) on the other hand has the system stalling out in the Midwest and brings more positive vorticity advection through our area. The European model (ecmwf) also had a TUTT low moving into the eastern Gulf on Thursday. The Canadian tends to lean towards the GFS. Will wait for model consistency on this before making any significant changes. 23 && Marine... broad surface high pressure across the southeastern United States and eastern Gulf of Mexico will keep winds onshore through the upcoming week. Pressure gradient looks to strengthen early next week which may lead to caution statements for the offshore waters. 38 && Preliminary point temps/pops...
