Area forecast discussion National Weather Service San Joaquin Valley - Hanford California 235 PM PDT sun may 19 2013 Synopsis... high pressure continues to build over the area resulting in clear skies and a gradual warming trend to above normal temperatures over the next few days. && Discussion... northwest flow continues over central California as the region remains between the trough of low pressure in the Great Basin and the ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific. This has resulted in breezy conditions on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley today which will continue into the evening. Still breezy across the mountains and desert of Kern County as well...but less than yesterday. The ridge will continue to shift inland over California Monday with temperatures warming several degrees and lighter winds. Models continue to be in agreement in bringing a low pressure center into the Pacific northwest Tuesday with the trough digging south over California Wednesday. Temperatures will remain warm Tuesday then cool back down to near or slightly below normal levels Wednesday and Thursday. Although this system will be dry... this system will bring a return of gusty winds in the San Joaquin Valley and across the Kern County mountains and desert. This system will be slow to move out as the main center of low pressure will remain over the Pacific northwest as an Omega blocking pattern sets up over the U.S. Thursday and Friday. Closed low center over the Pacific northwest will keep onshore flow over the region with seasonal temperatures and dry conditions into the Holiday weekend. && Aviation... VFR conditions will prevail across the central California interior. && Air quality issues... none. && Certainty... The level of certainty for days 1 and 2 is high. The level of certainty for days 3 through 7 is medium. This information is provided as part of a trial project conducted by the National Weather Service San Joaquin Valley - Hanford.
