... Storm system brings local freezing rain to northeast Arizona...
A relatively weak and warm storm system interacted with a shallow
modified Arctic air mass entrenched in the valleys of northeast
Arizona to bring local freezing rain overnight. This occurred
because a layer of warm air aloft caused snow falling from the cloud
layer to melt into rain before falling into sub-freezing air pooled
near the surface. Icy roads and vehicle slide-offs were reported by
adot and law enforcement agencies. The National Weather Service in
Flagstaff issued a Freezing Rain Advisory in effect from 1044 PM MST
December 12 until 500 am MST December 13.
Freezing rain reports were received from the following locations
I-40 mp 330-336 near Holbrook
