Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, February 11, 2012.

Precipitation will spread across the East Coast on Saturday, while more rain and mountain snow showers are anticipated for parts of the West. A trough of low pressure and associated cold front continue moving eastward across the Eastern Valleys into the Eastern Seaboard. Cool temperatures to the north will allow for snow showers to develop across the Northeast and New England, while rain showers are likely over the Mid-Atlantic states. Rain showers over the Southeastern states should wind down in the early morning hours as the tail end of the system pushes offshore early in the day. Expect the New York metropolitan area to see 1 to 3 inches of snow, while the Washington D.C. area will see a messy combination of snow and freezing rain as high temperatures reach into the lower 40s.

Behind this system, a ridge of high pressure continues to build in from the Plains, pushing cold and dry air in from Canada. This allows for plenty of sunshine to spread from the Plains over the Mississippi River Valley and into the Eastern Valleys. Expect the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest to see highs in the teens again, while the Midwest will see highs in the 20s. Strong winds will accompany this system, pushing windchill values below zero in these areas. The Southern Plains will remain in the 40s on Saturday.

Out West, a trough of low pressure pushes a cold front over the Pacific Northwest and continues pulling moisture onshore with it. This will kick up more rain showers with high elevation snow showers likely in the Cascades. The tail end of the frontal boundary will sweep through California, bringing light rain showers to the coasts and interior valleys. Expect light snow showers in the Sierra Nevadas by Saturday evening.

Wind Chill Advisory, Hard Freeze Warning, Freeze Watch, Lake Wind Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:12 PM EST on February 11, 2012

... Wind Chill Advisory in effect from 3 am to 8 am EST Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay area - Ruskin FL has
issued a Wind Chill Advisory... which is in effect from 3 am to
8 am EST Sunday.

* Wind chill values... 15 to 25 degrees are expected from Hernando
County north and 25 to 35 degrees from Pasco south late tonight
and early Sunday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Chill Advisory is issued when wind chill index values will
drop to 35 or lower... except 25 or lower across the Nature Coast
and Sumter County.

211 PM EST Sat Feb 11 2012

... Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST this
evening...
... Hard freeze warning in effect from 4 am to 8 am EST Sunday...
... Freeze watch in effect from late Sunday night through Monday
morning...

The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay area - Ruskin FL has
issued a hard freeze warning... which is in effect from 4 am to
8 am EST Sunday. A freeze watch has also been issued. This freeze
watch is in effect from late Sunday night through Monday morning.
The freeze watch is no longer in effect.

* Timing... from 10 am to 7 PM today winds will be from the
northwest at 15 to 20 mph and gusty. Then from 4 am to 8 am
Sunday morning temperatures will be below freezing.

* Winds... northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Temperature... below freezing for 2 to 4 hours with lows around
27.

* Impacts... boaters on area lakes should postpone trips until

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A hard freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are
imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and
other sensitive vegetation.

A lake Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast
to be 20 to 29 mph with frequent gusts to near or above gale
force for at least 3 hours. Winds of these magnitudes will
create rough conditions on larger area lakes which could produce
damage to... or flip... small pleasure craft.

Outdoor enthusiasts may wish to postpone lake related activities
until conditions improve.

A freeze watch is issued for the potential of a widespread and
damaging freeze within 24 to 48 hours. During the freeze
period... temperatures may remain below 32 degrees for more than
2 hours.
