Avalanche Warning
Statement as of 7:05 AM MST on December 21, 2014

The following message is transmitted at the request of The Sawtooth National Forest avalanche center...Ketchum Idaho.

...The Sawtooth National Forest avalanche center in Ketchum Idaho has issued a backcountry avalanche warning...

* timing...in effect until 730 am MST Monday.

* Location...Soldier...smoky...Boulder...sawtooth ranges...including the mountains near Fairfield...Galena Summit...Ketchum...Smiley creek...and Stanley. Heavy snowfall...rain...and strong winds will produce widespread high avalanche danger. Some avalanches will be large and destructive and may reach valley floors.

* Avalanche danger...heavy snowfall...rain...and strong winds will produce widespread high avalanche danger. Some avalanches will be large and destructive and may reach valley floors.

Precaution/preparedness actions...

Natural and human triggered avalanches are likely. Avoid travel in avalanche terrain. Backcountry skiers...snowboarders... snowmobilers and other users should be aware of sloping terrain and avoid avalanche path runout areas. Use extreme caution.

Avalanche conditions may exist...but not be reported...in locations outside the coverage area of any avalanche center. Check www.Avalanche.Org for your closest avalanche center and check www.Fsavalanche.Org to learn more about how to identify avalanche problems. Watch for changing conditions including recent avalanches...heavy snowfall or rain...strong wind or rapidly warming temperatures.

This warning does not apply to controlled ski areas or Highway operations.

A record rainfall of 0.77 inches was set at Burns or yesterday. This breaks the old record of 0.71 set in 1970.

A record rainfall of 0.70 inches was set at Ontario or yesterday. This breaks the old record of 0.39 set in 1969.
