Heat Advisory
Statement as of 10:08 AM CDT on August 23, 2014

...Heat advisory in effect until midnight CDT Sunday night...

The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a heat advisory...which is in effect until midnight CDT Sunday night. The excessive heat watch is no longer in effect.

* Temperature...mid 90s today with heat indices 105 to 108. Mid 70s to around 80 tonight. Mid to upper 90s Sunday with heat indices 105 to 112.

* Duration...this afternoon through Sunday evening.

* Impacts...cumulative effects from prolonged exposure to hot and humid temperatures can produce stress on persons that do not take precautions against the heat.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle. Internal temperatures can rise to 130 degrees in a matter of minutes and become fatal.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors.
