Statement as of 3:38 AM EST on December 09, 2013
... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 am EST this
* precipitation type... freezing rain and drizzle.
* Accumulations... around one quarter inch of ice... particularly
elevations below 1500 feet.
* Timing... ending this morning from east to west... with the
valleys in the Potomac Highlands and northern Shenandoah Valley
changing over last... near mid morning.
* Temperatures... from the upper 20s to around 30... rising above
freezing through mid morning Monday.
* Winds... north 5 to 10 mph.
* Impacts... hazardous travel conditions are expected due to
slick roads and icy conditions especially along Interstate 81
and in sheltered valley locations. Downed tree branches and
limbs along with power outages are likely.
Be ready for power outages. Know where working flashlights are
for your use. Have your electronics charging to allow for a full
charge in the event of an outage. Do not travel if you do not
need to. Monitor the latest forecast for updates and for impacts
to the morning rush hour.
