Thanks, too, for the guidelines on blanching. I, of course, don't really need that info, atm – I just like to know things, lol. When I was a kid my mom froze a gazillion carrots over a couple of years (my dad had a knack for carrot growing, I guess!) and I remember the clean-slice-blanch-freeze process.
Your husband's ladder incident did some good - I read your tale days ago and had to use a ladder extensively (though not an extension ladder) over the weekend and was especially careful, which I am not, always. I do hope he's healing well and has learned his lesson!
Is the warmth bringing you another tomato or ten? :)
sp34: Oh yes, basil loves heat, as long as it has enough to drink. And I'm glad my ladder story served as a cautionary tale for you. He still has a "shiner" and says his eye is still bothering him some. He was back up on the big extension ladder yesterday and today doing more pruning. No tomatoes today, but 6 yesterday along with 3 zucchini and more of both coming soon!
I was slow to read about the ladder incident, but it sounds like it is turning out ok. Good news! Take care outside with all the many accident-possible yard jobs we all have!
I know the medical system is different there, and all visits to Doctors have to be paid for, but I think if his eye is still bothering him he ought to have it looked at.
My neighbour did something similar, not falling off a ladder, but by a blow to the face resulting in a black eye. He went to the hospital A&E and had to have drops for a week to reduce the swelling on the optic nerve. His eyesight was effected, and once the swelling had gone down, his glasses prescription had to be changed.
I am not saying this is what might be the case with your hubby, but it might not hurt to have it checked???
You asked on my blog...
Don't know where "home" is, except that your heart and fond memories reside there, so I interpret that as meaning you're going to have lots of fun and see people you haven't seen in too long. Hopefully, lots of hugs and "catching up" to be enjoyed.
Home is East Yorkshire, about 200 miles north of my location. I am going to stay in my sister's home whilst she is on holiday. The whole idea is to spend the week going around grave yards, researching my family tree. So actually, as my sister won't be there, and the only friends I have left up there are also on holiday, there won't be many hugs, nor much "catching up" .... especially around the church yards!! lol
So have a good week, and I will be back on the 16th.
Might try it with zuchini and apples. Or maybe apples n carrots.
5 small zucchini
1 egg white
2/3 cup flour
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon italian seasoning or chili powder or ????
cooking spray
Preheat oven to 400F. Lightly coat baking sheet with cooking spray. Trim zucchini and cut in half lengthwise, then slice into 1/4 inch wide sticks resembling french fries.
Beat egg white with electric mixer until soft peaks form. Add zucchini sticks, tossing to evenly coat.
In paper bag, thoroughly shake flour, cornstarch, salt, and garlic powder until combined. Drop in the zucchini sticks, 5 or so at a time, and shake gently to coat.
Place all on baking sheet, spray all sides very well with cooking spray to moisten the flour, and bake about 30 minutes, turning once, or until golden brown.
Sandi: Okay, so no hugs. Maybe some fond memories though. And some fun investigating your family's history.
Aqua: I use 1/3 whole wheat flour and that comes out fine. This is such a fun recipe to play around with. I've even been known to add 1/2 cup of baking cocoa to zucchini muffins. Also a pseudo carrot cake with carrot, pineapple, and raisins. Have some fun with it!
Patriot Day Graphics
So glad that the graphic I left Pros last Sunday brought a smile and uplift to your day as well! Both of us gals have loved this particular poet for some time and his words seem most fitting for this time of year.
It may be of interest to know, that I live approximately eight to ten miles from the Derry, NH home and farm that Robert Frost once occupied decades ago. Thankfully, the historical society there continues to keep it up and opens it up for tourists from spring to early fall.
Hope you have a wonderful first weekend in October and that your ripened zucchini garden, which you mentioned above, continues to bring you delicious delights at mealtime.
A day early, but ....
