Hi, folks!

Wicca 101 at 10am and Brea’s Elements at Noon.

There’s a very bedraggled Stellar Jay bouncing around on the porch. He’s been in the planter, the fuchsia basket, landed on the top of the hummingbird feeder, on the railing and on the seed feeder…and then flew away, being replaced by a lot of sparrows. …who have now also flown away. …and then some hummingbirds… I’m drinking my coffee and trying to wake up.

It’s raining, steadily. It’s already 55F and not a breath of wind. We’re in the cloud layer, as far as I can tell. It was interesting watching this fog roll in late in the evening when we were still at the shop.

I got down to the shop a little past 8:30, yesterday morning, and started in trying to get ready for what I knew was going to be a long day. There was a lot of last minute find-this-put-that-away stuff that needed to happen.

Sash & Josh got there a bit later and got their game pavilion set up and then I set up the prizes inside and got the basket tags printed. They also decided to set up on July 3rd, hoping to get a bit more business.

At about that time some of the students from the Sunday class who were going to be in the parade were wandering around town, so they stopped in to say hi and tell me about what all was going on.

The phone kept ringing and then around 10am people started coming in to shop. By then Willow was there and Tempus showed up, eventually, with bread and rose petals in hand…or rather, in backpack…. 

…and from that point on, one thing ran into another. We had people in and out shopping….ran through a whole stack of business cards. The parade was fun and very, very loud. …although I have to say, Sash is louder than a PA system. When he was doing his spiel about the games I had to go inside because he made my ears hurt more than the fire sirens!!!

I managed to get the last of the sun hats “strung” with tie cords, too, so that’s done for the summer. I still have a few that I have to try to scrub or wash, since they’re acquired some dirt during their time in storage. They’ll have to get done later, but I have plenty.

We did pictures of the some of the young folks in their parade outfits, and I worked on the computer doing the souvenir photos and eventually put up an album. There’s a whole stack of Tempus in his wizard outfit, since he and Marius played a bit on Friday.

Late in the day, while we still had customers, we were taking it in turns to wait on people and spending a lot of time sitting down… The fog started rolling in, late in the day and it gave everything a look of mystery.

Tempus went over to the grocery store, looking for pot stickers for dinner, but ended up with pierogies, instead, which we baked when we got home. As we were leaving the shop, the dance was going on over at the Moose and the Fire Dancers had just finished.

Classes today, but there are a lot of people in town, still, so we may just wander over to enjoy the sandcastle building, although with the rain, some of the young folks may not be interested. We’re also going to close down the classes a bit early today, since we’re all pretty tired.

The shop opens at 10 today. Summer hours, 10am-7pm, Wednesday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

Love & Light,
Anja

Today
The Moon is a waning crescent. Waning Moon Magick - From the Full Moon to the New is a time for study, meditation, and magic designed to banish harmful energies and habits, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity. Hecate’s Brooch – 3-5 days before New Moon – Best time for Releasing Rituals. It’s the last few days before the new moon, the time of Hecate’s Brooch. This is the time that if you’re going to throw something out, or sweep the floors, or take stuff to Good Will, Do it! Rid yourself of negativity and begin the letting go process. Phase ends at 8:02pm on Sunday. End of the cycle - In the time leading up to the “New Moon” you may do banishings and other baneful magicks and healings that require blasting a disease away. The “tide change” from Dark to New occurs at 8:02am on Tuesday.

Can you see the big Coma Berenices star cluster? Does your light pollution really hide it, or do you just not know exactly where to look? The cluster is 2/5 of the way from Denebola (Leo's tail) to the end of the Big Dipper's handle (Ursa Major's tail). The cluster is about 5° wide — a big, dim glow in at least a moderately dark sky. Its brightest members form an inverted Y that nearly fills a binocular view.
Mercury (about magnitude –0.3 and fading) is very low in the west-northwest about 30 or 40 minutes after sundown. Don't confuse it with Capella far to its right, in the northwest. Pollux and Castor are above Mercury early in the week, and to the right of it by June 23rd.

Celtic tree month of Duir Oak - Jun 10 - Jul 7 - The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word "robust"). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Quotes
If a man fools me once, shame on him. If he fools me twice, shame on me. - Chinese Proverbs
If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there are men on base. - Dave Barry
If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. - Mother Teresa
If you want to be a holy man, you've got to be committed. When you make a decision you cannot waver in any way. You'd never see Gandhi during a hunger strike sneaking into the kitchen in the middle of the night. 'Gandhi...what are you doing down there?' 'Umm, I thought I heard a prowler...and I was going to hit him over the head with this big bowl of potato salad.' - Jim Carrey

THE CRIMSON LEAF
I watched as one small crimson leaf clung to the barren branch,
Sad to see all that brilliant color fall to the ground to die.
It was fast approaching winter, and I would miss the bright colors.

Sometimes I feel like that small crimson leaf, hanging on,
Reluctant to let go, afraid that my individuality will be destroyed;
But still I hold on to you, afraid and not really trusting your love.

I know I am but the latest of many, but my personality is bright,
I am caring and I have brought you much happiness and love.
Still, there exists in you a timing clock that rings when things are over;
And affairs are always over before two years have passed by.

All the brightness, passion and intelligence of my nature
Have been directed at pleasing you and bringing joy into your life...
But I have always known in my heart that it was one-way only.

I have not the value to you that I have had to others, that did not
Have your deep place in my heart. Ironic that we cannot chose
The ones that we will love.

I feel like that bright leaf, beautiful for a time, but that will disappear
Forever. Already my passionate love has begun to pall on you,
And even my bright red hair is dimming and becoming paler....

Before long my heart will break; and you will tramp my scarlet self
Under your feet, as you go out my door. Then you will hunt for the
Next bright hopeful, that will give too much and receive too little,
Only to be trampled at the last.

Remember that my temper is fierce, like my scarlet hair. The more
You turn cold, the more my temper also becomes a cold anger,
And that is the most dangerous kind of all. Remember the old saying,
"Revenge is a dish Best eaten cold," and beware - © Copyright 10/5/05, Beth Johnson (Mystic Amazon)

Silliness - Rabbi in the Catholic Hospital
Rabbi Levy had to spend time in a Catholic hospital. He became friends with the Sister who was a nurse there. One day, she came into his room and noticed that the crucifix on the wall was missing. She asked him good-naturedly, "Rabbi, what have you done with the crucifix?"

"Oh, sister," chuckled Rabbi Levy, "I just figured one suffering Jew in this room was enough."
