May the blessing of the Bright One,
the Brightener of Mornings,
be upon you and all you love.
Laughter of the running hours be yours,
and with the brow of brightness may you come
home in joy. -- Adapted from The Celtic Devotional by Caitlin Matthews
Hi, folks!
Esbat tonight, 7pm
Litha! Summer Solstice at 4:09pm. Yesterday was two seconds longer than the day before. Today is going to be about 1 second longer than tomorrow. “The Sun Stands Still” is the name of this time in a lot of the Slavic languages.
The sun is shining brightly through the study window, but it’s way chillier than it’s been for several mornings. That’s because it cleared up last night and the stars were amazing!
Tempus did house chores in the morning, yesterday, while I was working on newsletter stuff and then headed out to the garden. The closest I got to that was getting some seeds into some of the planters. Mostly I worked on the schedule for the July Psychic Fair and then put it up as an event on Facebook after I got the website updates finished. We’ve got bags of rose petals to dry, that I’ll be setting out this morning after I get to the shop and Tempus managed to cut a lot of grass and weeds that were starting to get out of control. I think he also was doing some repairs on someone’s equipment, but I haven’t asked him about that yet.
The last Wicca 104/204 class went really well. It’s mostly a discussion on Wiccan ethics and we took a couple of problems and argued them through pretty well. After that we worked on WiccaTrivia questions. We’re definitely going to be playing this game later in the summer again after we finish getting the new questions ready, edited and formatted for the game.
I’m going to be live on the radio this morning during the 9am show on KCUP 1230 AM & 100.7-2 HD FM! After about noon you should be able to find it on their website under “Waldport Today”.
Tempus is going to get some groceries while I’m on the air and then we’ll head to the shop. He’s working elsewhere during most of the afternoon, so I’ll be doing herbs, mostly. I have a lot more packing and prep to do.
The shop opens at 10 today, although we might be a bit late getting back from Newport. Summer hours, 10am-7pm, Wednesday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!
Love & Light,
Anja

Today
The Moon is New at 8:02am. New Moon - Named as such in calendars. When doing “New Moon Magick” use the day of, the day before and the day after. New Moon - The beginning of a new cycle. - Keywords for the New phase are: beginning, birth, emergence, projection, clarity. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action. During this phase the new cycle is being seeded by your vision, inner and outer. Engage in physical activity. Spend time alone. VISUALIZE your goals for the 29.6-day cycle ahead. The new moon is for starting new ventures, new beginnings. Also love and romance, health or job hunting. Phase ends at 8:02pm on Wednesday. Waxing Moon Magick - The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Diana’s Bow – On the 3rd day after the new moon you can (weather permitting) see the tiny crescent in the sky, the New Moon holding the Old Moon in her arms. Begin on your goals for the next month. A good time for job interviews or starting a project. Take a concrete step!
This is the time of year when the Little Dipper floats straight upward from Polaris after dark — like a helium balloon (I sometimes think) escaped from a summer evening graduation party.
New Moon (exact at 11:02 a.m. EDT).
Jupiter (magnitude –2.0) is coming into view deep in the glow of dawn.

Celtic tree month of Duir Oak - Jun 10 - Jul 7 - The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word "robust"). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Magick – Litha
June Magick - June's energies are focused on socialization and activity. It is a capricious month, filled with young love, romance, and the companionship of good friends. Any magic aimed at enhancing one's relationships, communication skills, and the personal energy level necessary for maintaining both will be augmented by working during this month
June Moon Names: Mead Moon, Moon of Horses, Lovers' Moon, Strong Sun Moon, Honey Moon, Aerra Litha (Before Litha), Brachmanoth (Break Month), StrawberryMoon, Rose Moon, Moon of Making Fat. The original Roman name for this month was Junonious, after the Great Mother Goddess Juno; her counterpart among the Greeks was Hera. The Summer Solstice has been and still is important to many religions and cultures around the world. Not only was it sacred to goddesses of fertility, marriage, and love, but it was considered to be a time when faeries, elves, and many other supernatural beings were abroad
in great numbers.
Celtic: Festival of the Oak Nymph - celebrated to honor all hamadryads (female natures spirits who inhabit oak trees).
Ancient Egyptian: Ma'at and Ra go forth in secret.
Rome: This day is sacred to Juno Moneta, Juno the Warner, the aspect of Juno who warns of impending disasters. Also: the festival of Carna, honoring the Roman Goddess of Doors and Locks. Carna was patron of security and physical safety of the home and family. Doors and windows were repaired on this day, and rituals performed to repel thieves.

Silliness - GCF: Preparation for Parenthood
MESS TEST: Smear peanut butter on the sofa and curtains. Now rub your hands in the wet flower bed and rub on the walls. Cover the stains with crayons. Place a fish stick behind the couch and leave it there all summer.
TOY TEST: Obtain a 55-gallon box of Legos. (If Legos are not available, you may substitute roofing tacks or broken bottles.) Have a friend spread them all over the house. Put on a blindfold. Try to walk to the bathroom or kitchen. Do not scream (this could wake a child at night).
GROCERY STORE TEST: Borrow one or two small animals (goats are best) and take them with you as you shop at the grocery store. Always keep them in sight and pay for anything they eat or damage.
DRESSING TEST: Obtain one large, unhappy, live octopus. Stuff it into a small net bag making sure that all arms stay inside.
FEEDING TEST: Obtain a large plastic milk jug. Fill it halfway with water. Suspend from the ceiling with a stout cord. Get the jug swinging. Try to insert spoonfuls of soggy cereal (such as Fruit Loops or Cheerios) into the mouth of the jug while pretending to be an airplane. Now dump the contents of the jug on the floor.
NIGHT TEST: Prepare by obtaining a small cloth bag and fill it with 8 to 12 pounds of sand. Soak it thoroughly in water. At 8 PM begin to waltz and hum with the bag until 9 PM. Lay down your bag and set your alarm for 10:00 PM. Get up, pick up your bag, and sing every song you have ever heard. Make up about a dozen more and sing them until 4:00 AM. Set alarm for 5:00 AM. Get up and make breakfast. Keep this up for 5 years. Look cheerful.
PHYSICAL TEST (WOMEN): Obtain a large bean-bag chair and attach it to the front of your clothes. Leave it there for 9 months. Now remove 10% of the beans.
PHYSICAL TEST (MEN): Go to the nearest drug store. Set your wallet on the counter. Ask the clerk to help himself. Now proceed to the nearest food store. Go to the head office and arrange for your paycheck to be directly deposited to the store. Purchase a newspaper. Go home and read it quietly for the last time.
FINAL ASSIGNMENT: Find a couple who already has a small child. Lecture them on how they can improve their child's discipline, patience, tolerance, toilet training, and table manners. Suggest many things they can improve as well. Emphasize to them that they should never allow their children to run riot. Enjoy this experience. It will be the last time you'll have all the answers.
