.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea has been pretty much cloud free for the past 24 hours.
Off the California coast there is a cold front along with a broad band of what look like mixed layers of clouds that are moving in from the Pacific and it looks like the northern Sea will see the tail end of these clouds as it passes east today.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera it looks like there were several areas that saw some passing clouds yesterday and last night but in general it was mostly sunshine along the Riviera yesterday.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific Basin along the ITCZ, Monsoon trough there is an area of very heavy convection about 130. Lots of thunderbumper activity that is producing a lot of clouds that will be drifting east toward the Mexican Riviera today.
This plume is very broad and it looks like from just south of the cape to Acapulco they could see anything from light whispys to heavy overcast later today.
That’s what is going on in our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where the storms are lined up out in the Pacific bringing system after system into the Great Northwest and northern California for what looks like the rest of the week.
Significant rain and mountain snow are in the forecast. The Lake Tahoe area is forecast to receive a couple of feet of new snow.
California’s central valley will see off and on rain all week as well.
Southern California in the LA basin will see some rain today as that cold front passes through. It will be cloudy all week with another cold front expected on Saturday bringing colder temperatures, gusterly winds and a chance of more rain.
Further south in the San Diego area that trough of low pressure moving in from the Pacific will bring high clouds today along with gusterly winds to the mountains and deserts. Costal fog will continue until Friday when high pressure will rebuild over the southland.
Looking now over to the southwest where they will see some high overcast today through the end of the week. It will otherwise be dry with above normal daytime temperatures. A trough of low pressure is forecast to pass to the north this weekend bringing the temperatures back to normal.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence Buoy Weather was having issues this morning and I was only able to bring up 4 of the normal 35 locations that I use from Buoy Weather in my forecast.
Fortunately there is virtually no gradient in the Sea today and today should see winds a bit less than yesterday.
So mostly abundant sunshine and moderate winds in the Sea. The Riviera will most likely see some cloudiness later today.

.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea has been cloud free for the past 24 hours.

Those clouds moving off the ITCZ, Monsoon trough just brushed the extreme cape area yesterday and last night. It looks like the La Paz area was pretty much cloud free as well.
Looking over to the Mexican Riviera where most of those clouds ended up from around Mazatlan to Cabo Correnties for the past 24 hours. It looks like there was some thunderbumper activity back in the mountains east of Mazatlan early this morning but nothing along the coast.
This morning that cloud producing area along the ITCZ, Monsoon trough is not quite as active as it has been and it looks like the Riviera will be seeing mostly sunshine today.
The Tehuantepec is still quiet this morning with winds less than 10K forecast for the 3-day forecast period. So the crossing window is still open.
That’s the god’s eye view of our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where the real meteorologists are calling the weather out in the Pacific “Very Active” and it looks like it will be very active all week for the Great Northwest and northern California. ‘
The Great Northwest as well as Northern and Central California will see rain heavy at times and moderate snow in the mountains. The cascades could see a foot or more of new snow from this current series of storms that should last until Thursday.
In the Los Angeles basin they will see increasing clouds today then a good chance of rain on Wednesday then clear up the rest of the week with warming temperatures.
In the San Diego area seasonal weather will continue into the weekend. Seasonal weather meaning coastal fog lasting into late mornings. The front that will bring wet weather to the LA area will bring gusterly conditions Wednesday into the weekend. The forecast is for a warming trend starting early next week.
Looking now over to the southwest where a strong warming trend will continue all week as high pressure prevail over the southwest. This weekend another system to the north will cool things off a bit otherwise it will; continue to be dry and warm.
That’s what is going on the north of us. Back on this side of the fence it looks like the Sea will be seeing moderate winds over the 3-day forecast period. Today the strongest winds will be in the Northern crossing and they should be a bit less than 20 knots.
That cold front that came through yesterday was cold. Most locations in the northern and central Sea saw afternoon temperatures in the low to mid 70s; the southern Sea was also a few degrees cooler than the day before.
Today we should see the afternoon temperatures looking for 80 degrees again.
Wind-wise today will not be as windy as yesterday. The Northern crossing will again have the strongest winds however they should be a tad less than 20 today. The rest of the 3-day forecast period should be seeing moderate northerlies.

Sea of Cortez Weather 3/26/12

By: Geary, 2:18 PM GMT on March 26, 2012

Monday, March 26, 2012

Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that those high cirrus that came in from the west took there sweet time passing over the Baja peninsula yesterday. It was hazy all day with these whispys overhead.
This morning there are a few high cirrus in the Pacific off the west coast of the peninsula and we may see a few of them otherwise it looks like sunshine for most of the northern and central Sea today.
Looking south to the cape area, well first looking out along the ITCZ, Monsoon trough where there is light convection building from around 120 to around 130. No thunderbumpers along the zone just some scattered bands of what look like mostly mixed layers of clouds that are drifting east and pretty much aimed at the cape this morning. So it looks like they will be seeing these all day.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera where from around Mazatlan south to a little past Cabo Correnties they too will be seeing a few clouds during the day.
Not much else gone on in our hood. The Tehuantepec continue to be quiet today with the forecast for these less than 10 knot winds to continue throughout the 3-day forecast period.
So looking now north to the west coast of America where in this image the eye is drawn to yet another storm approaching northern California. It looks like they are getting a late winter up there.
The forecast is for the Great Northwest as well as northern California to be a bit overcast today before the next storm arrives tomorrow, and then wet all week. The Lake Tahoe area is forecast to have light snow through Wednesday.
California’s reservoirs are filling up much to the delight of southern California where they need the water to keep their lawns green.
Southern California is drying out today after that storm moved through the area yesterday and last night. That system has moved NE and the center is over Las Vegas this morning. The tail is dragging through the northern Sea this morning.
Looking now over to the southwest where that weakening low is passing well to the north causing some locally breezy conditions and some slight cooling today however the rest of the week should see clear skies and a warming trend.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like clear skies are in store for most of the Sea today. The cape area will see some passing clouds but not enough to affect any solar charging.
We should see temperatures up a degree of two from yesterday.
Wind wise the sea will see a bit more wind today than the past 4 days. The forecast is for up to 20 knots in the afternoons for the central Sea however I’m a bit iffy on those values. I’m thinking mid teens. We’ll see?
Yesterday someone asked me why the bar some of the reporting stations always has a lower bar reading than their neighbors. I usually drop the station a note saying they need to make an adjustment to their bar readings. I’m not a bar cop and that’s all I can do it they choose not to make the adjustments.

Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that out in the Pacific there is a long narrow band of clouds that are being swept along by the west/east flow in the basin. They are being drawn north toward that low off the California coast and starting this morning the northern Sea will see some high cirrus, whispys, and later this morning the central Sea will start to fill in with more of these high whispys. It looks like the southern Sea could briefly see some these clouds before this band passes to the east.
It looks like by this afternoon the skies should be pretty much clear over the entire Sea.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera where the will be seeing abundant sunshine all day.
Looking further south to the Tehuantepec where the crossing window has been open for 4 days now and the forecast is for less than 10 knot winds to continue throughout the 3-day forecast period.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific Basin this morning I can see that the ITCZ, Monsoon trough has become rather active this morning with lots of moderate convection building albeit not with many thunderbumpers developing.
That looks like it is it for our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where it will be wet from Vancouver British Columbia to Ensenada today.
The Great Northwest will have rain in their forecast all week. Northern California pretty much the same thing. This morning it is snowing on top of Mt Diablo in the Bay Area.
Snow is also forecast for today in the Sierras.
For southern California I can see that big honk’n low swirling off of Pt. Conception this morning. As it moves shore today high winds will precede the front. Small craft warning have been issued for the coastal waters of southern California. Pulses of heavy rain will fill the gutters and the drainage ditches to near capacity in many locations before the storm passes this evening.
The storm will linger in southern California all day and egress to the northeast later tonight and into tomorrow.
Ensenada will most likely see some rain but most of the wetness will stay on the north side of the Fence.
Looking now over to the southwest where they can expect to see breezy to locally windy conditions this afternoon ahead of that California storm. It will be a bit cooler tomorrow as the system just brushes the northern portion of the state. Tuesday through the end of the week they should see slightly above normal temperatures.
Well, that is what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the northern Sea, mostly around San Filepe, will be Gusterly as the front passes through this evening.
The rest of the Sea should continue to see light to moderate winds today. Tomorrow the winds will pick up and be generally brisk, less than 20 then Tuesday the winds in most locations will be in the ballpark 20 knot ranges.
Temperatures today will continue to rise a degree or two and then level off for the first part of next week. Today most locations in the central Sea should be flirting with the 80 degree mark. At bit higher in the southern Sea. The airport at La Paz was showing 88 degrees for yesterday’s high however I’m sure that is way too high.

Sea of Cortez Weather 3/24/12

By: Geary, 2:10 PM GMT on March 24, 2012

Saturday, March 24, 2012

Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the skies have been clear over Baja for the past 24 hours.
Looking out in the Pacific I can see the area off the Baja west coast has pretty much solid whispys that are moving toward the peninsula this morning. The low over central Mexico is drawing these clouds in from the Pacific. However at 5am it looked like they were still off shore.
It looks like the entire Sea will be seeing these pass over today.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera this morning. I can see that they will be seeing abundant sunshine all day. No clouds in the vicinity all the way south to Central America.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific Basin I can see there is very little activity along the the ITCZ, Monsoon trough this morning.
Looking back at the Tehuantepec where the crossing window is still open with less than 10 knot winds in their forecast for the 3-day forecast period.
That’s about it for our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where starting at the top of this image I can see the storms lined up out in Pacific that will keep the Great Northwest wet all week. Well today they could actually see periods of sunshine but the rest of the week…WET!
Around 300 miles west of San Franciso I can see the giant counter clockwise swirl of that big honk’n low out there. It is forecast to bring rain to the bay area and northern California all weekend bringing rain to the low lands and light snow to the Sierras..
The low will continue its trek south off shore today and come ashore tomorrow in southern California. Gale force winds are accompanying this system that will weaken as it moves inland tomorrow. Small craft warning however will be posted in the coastal waters from Pt. Conception south to San Diego tomorrow.
This system is not a particularly cold system it is however packing a lot of moisture. The forecast for southern California is for the coastal areas to have moderate rain, heavy at times on Sunday and much heavier rain in the surrounding mountains and high deserts.
The system will exit to the NE heading into the Great Basin on Monday.
Looking now over to the southwest where warm temperatures will continue today. That California storm will brush the northern portion of the state on Monday on its way into the Great Basin. As it passes on Monday it will bring cooler temperatures and breezy to locally windy conditions. Following the passing warm weather will return well into next week.
Well, that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence we can expect another spring like day, much like yesterday wind-wise. The only fly in the ointment could be hazy conditions as these high whispys pass over today.
As far as the winds it looks like this weekend into Monday will be much like today.
Temperatures today should be up a degree or two from yesterday. Most locations in the central see will be looking at the low to mid 80s today.

Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea has again been cloud free for the past 24 hours.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera where they too have not seen any clouds over the past 24 hours. Further south around the Tehuantepec I can see a few light scattered clouds drifting in form the Pacific from a small area of convection on the ITCZ, Monsoon trough around 115. These are the only clouds in the Eastern Pacific Basin this morning with the exception of a rather heavy fog bank hugging the coast from about Pt. San Quinten to La La Land this morning.
The crossing window is still open for the Tehuantepec with winds forecast to be around 10 knots or less over the 3-day forecast period.
That’s about it for our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where the weather-maker is about 650 miles off the Oregon coast this morning. This is a 989 low that has dropped down from the Gulf of Alaska in the past 24 hours and will bring rain to the Great Northwest starting tomorrow.
The storm will continue to slide south and bring rain and high elevation snow to Northern California tomorrow into Sunday.
The storm will continue to slide south and bring rain to southwestern California Sunday through Monday. This system is not as cold the previous storm with snow levels starting out around 7000 feet Sunday then lowering to around 5000 feet Sunday night. It will be gusterly in the mountains with gust of 45-50 mph forecast.
There is also a slight chance of some thunderbumpers as this system passes through this weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where warm temperatures will continue today and tomorrow as that low system moves down the coast. The storm should move inland moving NE into the Great Basin just brushing the northern portion of the state Monday bringing cooler temperatures and breezy conditions to the southwest.
Tuesday through Thursday they can expect warmer temperatures and about the same for the rest of the week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence we can expect to see another spring like day today with light winds and abundant sunshine.
This morning’s sunrise temperatures were generally up across the board and yesterday’s afternoon highs were also up a few degrees. It looks like today most locations will see afternoon highs in the low to mid 80s.

Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the Sea has been cloud free for the past 24 hours.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera where they too have been cloud free for the past 24 hours.
Looking out in the Pacific there aren’t any clouds out there either.
Looking out along around 120W and 8N along the ITCZ, Monsoon trough I can see there is a small area of convections that over the past 24 hours has produced some small thunderbumpers but that is it for the Eastern Pacific Basin this morning.
Even the Tehuantepec is quiet this morning with ballpark 10K winds in their forecast for the next 3 days so the crossing window is still open.
That’s about it for our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image that long plume of moisture laden clouds stretches out from northwest of Hawaii and head directly toward the Oregon coast. Within this plume is a cold front that is bringing snow again to the streets of Portland and Seattle today.
This system will sag into Northern California tomorrow bringing showery conditions to the north state.
The Sunday the main body will arrive binging steady rain to the Sacramento valley and the Bay Area. Snow levels will drop to around 3000 feet. Even though the origins of this storm came from the Gulf of Alaska it is not a particular cold system. Only a few inches of snow are forecast in the higher elevations.
The storm should start to slide east on Saturday leaving unsettled weather in it’s wake into mid week. The models are showing another round of steady rain possible again Tuesday into Wednesday.
Looking south to southern California where a storm that is currently in the Gulf of Alaska will arrive this weekend bringing rain and mountain snow along with gusterly winds. Behind the initial cold front there will be additional showers that could linger into Monday. This system has the potential to bring brief heavy rain and small hail to the LA Basin. .the system should exit by Monday.
For the San Diego area the forecast is about the same with gusterly winds in the mountains and deserts forecast having the potential to be in the 50 mph ranges.
The system should exit to the NE into the Great Basin Monday evening and Tuesday the southland should start to see fair weather again into the middle of next week...
Meantime today there will be locally dense fog along coast, perhaps even some drizzle in the San Diego Area.
Looking now over to the southwest where a strong and rapid warming trend continues today. Temperatures will climb throughout the weekend. That California storm will track across the northern part of the state late this weekend.. It will however cause some gusterly winds Sunday and Monday with just a few degrees of cooling to start the new week.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the two day blow is over and it looks like the next three days will look like spring. Very light winds, lots of sunshine and finally a warming trend. Here at El Burro our average March daytime high is 82. So far this month we have averaged 75 so we are due a warm up.

Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that those fluffys that passed over the central Sea yesterday from the west coast of the peninsula are now gone and the Sea is virtually cloud free this morning.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera I can see that they too will be cloud free today. There is nothing out in the Pacific that resembles a cloud. That being said. This image is showing what could be pockets of fog along the coast around Manzanillo this morning.
Nothing going on in the Gulf of Tehuantepec this morning with 10-13 today diminishing over the 3-day forecast period so it looks like a crossing window is now open.
Looking out to the ITCZ, Monsoon trough along around 8N this morning. This image is showing the trough to be almost gone with only broken sections showing on this image. This image is also showing a couple of 1010 lows west of Central America this morning.
That’s about it for our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see a long plume of moisture laden clouds strung out from just west of Hawaii this morning to the Oregon coast. Embedded in this plume is a very cold system that will be bringing snow to the streets of Portland and Seattle today and well into the week. They are forecasting significant snow around the Corvallis and Eugene area tonight into Thursday.
Northern California should be clear today then tomorrow into the weekend off and on showers that dip down from the north. This weekend should bring in the next storm to the northern state.
Southern California will be warmer and dry today under building high pressure off the west coast. There is a low out in the Pacific that is forecast to move east of the next couple of days and arrive this weekend. This system could bring moderate amounts of rain to the southland this weekend. As this front exits to east the forecast is for a warming trend starting early next week.
Looking now over to the southwest where high pressure will remain over the region through the week bringing dry weather and a warming trend to the southwest and south-central Arizona. The warmest day should be Friday. A system moving in from the west this weekend will cool things off a bit well into next week.
Well, that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the winds in the Sea will be pretty much like yesterday with winds in the mid 20s for most locations. Tomorrow into the weekend should see very moderate winds in the Sea.
From the far northern end of the Sea to the southern Riviera should be seeing abundant sunshine today.
Temperatures today will be much like yesterday and be on the cool side. High 60s into the mid 70s for most locations. The Riviera will see temperatures in the lot to mid 80s today

Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that that front come through Baja yesterday and has now swung NE and centered over Colorado. The back side will still be bringing unsettled weather to the southwest and I’ll talk about that in a minute.
Most of the clouds have passed to the east during the night and this morning I can see a just some remnant whispys passing over the northern and central Sea. These could persist until late afternoon then the sea should have clear skies for the remainder of the week.
The web cam at La Paz was showing clear skies and this image is showing the southern end of the peninsula looks to be cloud free this morning.
Looking south to the Mexican Riviera I can see that the moisture plume that has been over the peninsula for a week and Mexican Riviera for the past several days has weakened and slid south and most of the cloudiness is from Manzanillo south this morning..
Looking out along the ITCZ, Monsoon trough the area of convection that these clouds emanate is around 110 this morning. So most of the Riviera will be seeing mostly sunshine today.
That’s what is going on in our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see that the Great Northwest will continue to have rain and snow down to the lower elevations all week. It’s cold in the northwest.
For those folks that live further north and are thinking about spending Easter at home. It was 32 and snowing in Summerland British Columbia this morning and further north at Prince George it was 15 this morning with a promise of snow all week.
Back on this side of the Canadian border in Northern California north of San Francisco they are forecast to be cold and rainy all week.
The Sierras will have snow continuing until tomorrow. Central California will be drying out with the next chance of any rain late in the week.
Looking now to southern California where after a very wet weekend they are starting to dry out. It will be breezy today and cold with locally freezing temperatures tonight. Tomorrow it will start to warm up with the warming trend lasting until late in the week when the next system could bring a chance of rain to the southland.
Looking now over to the southwest where the front is well east now but the trough is not quite done with the southwest yet. Two more slugs of energy diving down the back side of the trough will bring more snow this morning and then later this afternoon with perhaps periods of sunshine in between. Snow levels could drop to the valley floors today. Storm warnings are still in effect until late this evening.
Tomorrow the skies will clear and a strong warming trend lasting until Friday.
Well, that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the storm brought cooler temperatures to Baja .Today should be pleasant wind-wise. Tomorrow the central Sea is forecast to have strong winds in the 30K ranges. I’m a bit iffy about the strength but the winds will be strong. They should last well into the evening hours and Wednesday and be much lighter. This forecast may change by tomorrow but if you are in the central Sea it would be wise to prepare for a strong northern blow.
The northern and central Sea will see some remnant whispys today and then it looks like clear skies for the rest of the week.
Temperatures however will remain on the cool side. Yesterday the northern Sea warmed up to the mid 60, the central Sea mid 70s and the southern Sea low 80s and they should see about the same today.

Sea of Cortez Weather 3/18/12

By: Geary, 2:19 PM GMT on March 18, 2012

Sunday, March 18, 2012

Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see the cold front moving through the northern Sea and portions of the central Sea during the night and this morning. The clouds accompanying this system look very wet however none of the reporting stations on either side reported any rain. I can see that a squall line extended down the Sea in the early morning hours and it looks like Guaymas and Hermosillo could have been having a shower at 5am.
There is another band of clouds in the outer band of this swirling low that is moving in from the Pacific that looks plenty wet and that could bring some showers as far south as Santa Rosalia later this morning. We’ll see?
In General most of the Sea has some overcast this morning. It gave us a great sunrise this morning here in el Burro Cove.
Looking south to the cape area. I can see that moisture plume that has been with us for almost a week now is spread out from La Paz to south of the cape.
Over on the mainland bands of scattered clouds are all along the Mexican Riviera from around Los Mochas south to Acapulco this morning.
Looking out into the Pacific it looks like the convection that is spawning this moisture plume out around 140 is drying out this morning. It does look like the entire Mexican Riviera will be seeing overcast most of the day today.
Not much going on in the Tehuantepec this morning, ballpark 10-15 knot winds so it looks like a crossing window could be open until perhaps Tuesday.
That’s what is going in our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where the entire west coast is cold this morning. Frost advisories have been posted along the coast in Northern California.
Another strong storm is moving through the Great Northwest bringing snow levels to the streets of Portland and Seattle today. The Great Northwest is forecast to have rain and snow for at least the next five days.
Northern California will have one more day of rain in the San Joaquin and Sacramento valleys. The Sierras will have a couple more days of snow.
Southern California will see this low and associated cold front move slowly inland through tomorrow with very cold temperatures and strong winds through tonight.
Today they will be seeing some nasty weather with thunderbumpers with possible waterspouts along the coastal waters in the forecast along with a chance of small hail. Gale warnings are still in affect trough late tonight. They could see a chance of showers into Tuesday.
Looking now over to the southwest where the front is slowly moving east through the state bringing rain that will turn to snow later today. Snow levels will begin around 7000 feet and could drop to the valley floors by tomorrow morning. Brisk to strong winds will accompany this storm and a winter storm warning is in effect until tomorrow morning. Blowing snow will make for hazardous driving conditions today and this evening.
The storm should exit by Tuesday and a strong warming trend will occur for the later part of the week with temperatures in the 80s by Friday.
That’s what is going on the north of us. Back on this side of the
Fence the winds in the Sea will be gusterly today with ballpark 20 knot winds in most of the Sea. Tomorrow the winds will decrease to the mid teens then on Wednesday the winds will peak up to around 30 for the northern and central Sea. The southern Sea mid 20s.
Most sunrise temperatures were down a few degrees this morning and I’d expect that most highs this afternoon will not be much more than the mid 70s.

Sea of Cortez Weather 3/17 St Pattys Day

By: Geary, 2:22 PM GMT on March 17, 2012

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning first in the 24 hour loop I can see that the central Sea had mostly sunshine for the past 24 hours. The southern end of the peninsula saw that moisture plume pass over all day and all last night and is still there this morning. The northern edge of the plume is to the south of La Paz, say around Los Baralles, and south to the cape is completely overcast. It looks like this will continue all day.
Looking now over to the Mexican Riviera where the plume is pretty much centered over Mazatlan with scattered bands of clouds reaching Puerto Villarta this morning. That area will also see cloudiness all day. To the south of Cabo Correnties it looks like they could see mostly sunshine all day.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific Basin along the ITCZ, Monsoon trough around 140 is an area of rather heavy convections that is the genesis for this moisture plume. There is no jet stream support so these clouds are just drifting a bit north then flow with the west/east flow in the basin toward Mexico.
Looking back to the mainland and the Tehuantepec 20 knot winds were recorded at Salina Cruz on the northern shore of the Gulf this morning and the forecast is for these winds to weaken today and be less than 20 later this afternoon and for the rest of the 3-day forecast period.
That’s about it for our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image there is yet another powerful storm arriving in the Great Northwest this morning. They will be skiing in the streets of Portland today.
Northern California will see significant rain today and heavy snow in the Sierras. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the central Sacramento valley, the foothills and the California delta for today and tomorrow.
Looking now toward southern California where a big honk’n very cold storm has descended from the Gulf of Alaska and will arrive in southern California today. This image is showing the northern edge of the front to be over northern Nevada and the southern end around Pt. Conception on the California coast early this morning and moving southeast. This system will be bringing much colder temperatures and high winds to the southland through Monday. It will also bring locally heavy rains and snow in the higher elevations and the California deserts. I-5 will be impacted with snow over the Grape Vine as well as other high elevation passes.
Gale force winds will be in vicinity of the front with Gale force winds continuing into Monday. Seas will build rapidly this evening to around 12 feet. Thunderbumpers with possible waterspouts along with small hail and dangerous clouds to cloud lighting. Unsettled weather will continue into Monday then fair weather Tuesday and Wednesday as high pressure moves back over the region.
Southern California does not south like the place to plan a picnic this weekend.
Looking now over to the southwest where it will be windy today with blowing dust impacting driving visibility in advance of the Pacific storm that will arrive tomorrow. A winter storm watch has been posted for southwest Arizona from tomorrow through Monday afternoon. Significant snow is forecast for Arizona over the weekend into Monday. Snow levels will start around 7000 feet and could dip to the valley floors by Monday.
Then a strong warming trend, mild and dry for the second half of the week. Temperatures should be back into the 80s for most locations by Friday.
Well, that’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like today the central Sea will see the best weather. The northern Sea will start to see some cloudiness later this morning. The southern Sea from south of La Paz will be overcast with that tropical plume. The winds in the northern Sea will start to pick up tomorrow morning and be strong through Monday. It does not look like the winds will extend down into the central Sea very far.
It looks to me that clouds from this Pacific storm will extend south to perhaps Concepcion Bay tomorrow. Rain is very likely in northern Baja tomorrow and I would not be surprised if we saw some sprinkles or light rain from this system in the central Sea. We’ll see?
Baja could use the rain, but I’m careful what I ask for. Today’s temperatures will be about like yesterday and be in the mid to high 70s and low 80s

73s Y'all
