A Recipe for Conversation
Here is a quick recipe for how to get a conversation started with Bryce, the new man of the house.
1. Obtain eye contact.
2. Retain eye contact. Easier said than done.
3. Stick your tongue out at him. This often gets him to smile as long as steps 1 and 2 are performed previously.
4. Put it back, then a few seconds later, stick your tongue out at him again. Repeat this step until he begins to make a "coo" noise.
5. Repeat his "coo". Funny faces while mimicking his "coo" are a plus.
6. If done correctly, he should begin to "coo" back at you. If not, repeat steps 3 through 5. Often, you'll have to repeat steps 1-2 as well.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 as desired. Laughing at this sillyness is optional but makes the whole experience more fun.
Today’s forecast grade: B-
Weather Statement: (Courtesy of the National Weather Service)
patchy dense fog will slow travel for awhile today... Clear skies and wet ground allowed patchy...dense fog to form overnight over much of central and northern Wisconsin. Visibilities in some areas are less than a quarter of a mile. The fog should dissipate between 8 am and 9am. Until then...slow down and use low beam headlights.
Now: At 7am with clouds and areas of dense fog, temps are mostly in the lower 60s. It's cooler up north though, with Eagle River currently at 36! Brrr!
Synopsis: Ok, so there was a slight difference in temperatures and precipitation depending on if you live in central or southern Wisconsin. The soaking rain that was expected to move through southern Wisconsin yesterday afternoon chose to move a bit north and hit central Wisconsin instead. This kept central Wisconsin high temperatures in the lower 70s, and it cooled into the 60s during and after the storm, while southern Wisconsin stayed hot ahead of the cold front with highs in the upper 80s to near 90! I know that autumn is approaching fast, but I didn't think it got dark at 2pm quite yet!
Today: Cloudy with areas of fog this morning. A few breaks in the clouds later this morning with a chance of showers and thunderstorms west and south later in the day. High of 74 central, mid- to upper 70s south. Rain chance southwest 25%.
Tonight: Scattered thundershowers this evening south, otherwise mostly cloudy, lows upper 50s. Rain chance south 35%.
Tomorrow: Partly sunny, maybe an isolated shower central and north tomorrow night, highs upper 70s central, lower 80s south. Rain chance central 25%.
Saturday: Partly cloudy, breezy and mild, highs in the mid- 80s central, upper 80s south!
Sunday: Partly cloudy, still very mild, highs again in the mid- to upper 80s!
Next Week's Outlook: Things look to start off warm and dry on Monday, but then I expect scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms Tuesday through Thursday. Highs in the low to mid- 80s Monday and Tuesday, then dropping back into the 70s after that.
Today in Las Vegas, Nevada: Sunshine, breezy, highs around 100. Secure your pool cover!
Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Scattered showers, breezy, highs low to mid- 80s.
High surf advisory in effect until 9 PM EDT this evening...
High risk of rip currents through this evening...
The combination of high pressure to the north and Tropical Storm
Ophelia off the Florida coast... will keep a tight pressure
gradient across the area through this evening. This will
result in continued strong northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph... which
in turn will continue generating waves of 4 to 6 feet near shore.
The prolonged nature of this event will make significant beach
erosion quite possible. The highest risk of erosion will be a few
hours either side of high tide... which will occur around noon
today. Locations most likely to experience significant beach
erosion are Folly Beach... Edisto Beach... Hunting Island and Tybee
In addition to the rough surf conditions... dangerous rip currents are
expected again today. The long shore current is also expected to
be very strong... providing yet another hazard to anyone who enters
the water. Always heed the advice of lifeguards or the beach
patrol. Pay attention to flags and signs posted near beach access
points and lifeguard stations.
Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Isolated afternoon thunderstorms, highs lower 90s, Ozone Action Day.
Today in Georgetown, Kentucky: What do you care, you're in Florida!

The water gives up its dead
Receding floodwaters in a suburban New Orleans parish revealed what many fear could be the first of many such discoveries -- more than 30 bodies in a nursing home that was swamped in Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. Meanwhile, there are reports that 25,000 body bags have been sent to the state.
The only tropical storm that might affect the U.S. is Ophelia, currently nearly-stationary off the northern Florida coast.

Ford recalling 3.8 million trucks, SUVs
Trucks and SUVs recalled for switch that could cause fires. Also, Toyota recalls nearly a million.
