Life Along Lake Michigan

Warmest April Here in History
Posted by: JanesVacation, 11:39 PM GMT on April 17, 2010 +0
It is the warmest April here in recorded weather history. But, we are shivering here tonight as the temperatures are headed below 32 degrees. The trees are leafing out and the buds have popped on the fruit trees grown in this area. We are a full 3 weeks ahead of schedule and that can spell disaster for the growers.

My husband grows grapes here and he will go out and keep the sprinklers turned on them tonight to ice them over in hopes of protecting the tender vegetation that has come out in the past week. I will be placing plastic over all of the perennials that have come up in my front yard. The roses, hydrangea and day lilies are all showing tender growth.

Our last frost is typically around Mother's Day. We have several weeks to go before that date. Let's hope this warm and sunny early spring will not turn into an agricultural disaster.

Spring Break in Montreal

The weather is great here in MONTREAL. The forsythia is blooming and the tulips are up about 8 inches. The people are out in the cafes enjoying the sunshine. The small bistro tables have been brought out on the sidewalks and the lattes are being enjoyed with a book while children play in the parks. I have never seen so many dogs out walking around after what must be a long winter in small apartments.

We enjoyed Easter dinner with our soon to be French-Canadian family. A new baby has arrived in their family over he winter. He is being passed around to the loving aunts and uncles. He is teething, so everyone passes the cloth to wipe his drool!

More good weather for today. A high of 19C with a slight chance of rain. I will be taking a walk this morning and then fixing dinner for my daughter when she returns from work. We took this picture using the timer on my camera. It was windy and we were on a hill overlooking the city yesterday.
