The Ark

Battle of the Bugs

Welcome to The Ark

Well, there have been some interesting developments of late concerning my friend RTLSNK. (funny how many interesting developments he finds himself in the midst of). Once again he finds himself dealing with a creepy-crawly infestation. This time it's not rhino beetle giganticus, but perhaps something a bit more sinister. I'll just post the report I recently read from him:

(begin Transmission)

Todays Garden Report is brought to you by The Macon Master Gardener, Sugar Bear.

Fear not boys and girls, for we are about to talk about an invasion.

Macon has been invaded by the nafarious KUDZU BUG.

It was discovered in Athens, Georgia in 2009, and has now spread throughout Georgia, Alabama, and the "Carolinas".(yuk yuk yuk) Both of them!!!

It does eat the dreaded Kudzu Plant, however, it also eats everything else in the world. It likes to spend the winter in the walls of your home to stay warm. It is about the size of a Ladybug but a little smaller. It also flys extreemly high for a little bug so strong winds will blow them everywhere.

If you find one inside your home DO NOT STEP ON IT. It is known as a STINKBUG and has a horrible smell. Use the vacuum hose to pick them up instead.

Here is a photo of the little critter:

(End Transmission)

Further reports on this ongoing operation will be released in the comments section below as they become available.

Here is a link to the previous blog.

Yep!
An interruption-free morning.
Well, apart from having to go out to the nearest cash-machine and to get some more nails.....

Hot one today. Gauge is reading 91F with 60% humid., but it feels hotter and damper than that!
Might be a good idea to drink another gallon of water.....

See ya later, Salamander.

Hey Todd!
Pretty good.

Salamander? As in a fire elemental?

Hmmm....Actually I'm an air sign.

Yep!
Thanks for the Earl Scruggs and Lester Flats and them!
We don't make them like that, anymore.
T'was the days when you got up and played, and the recording was The Truth.
No messing around with re-mixing, ad-mixing, and stuff.

Nice!

Wow, some great tunes going on around here!

Long day yesterday, had a lot of CD's and DVD's to duplicate at Church yesterday morning, then yard work, then Dr. appt in the afternoon late, then the kids and grands came over for dinner and left around 2100 hrs last night.

Went to lay down for a few minutes and rest my knee for a little bit when they left and woke up about 0415. :)

Have a pretty easy day planned for this morning, spread about 8 bags of brown mulch around the Tea Olives in the north side landscape area, then put my new 3" auger drill bit into my high speed drill and dig 24 holes in the landscape area next to the driveway so SugarBear can plant her new "ground cover" plants that just came in.

Observational note: the last "ground cover" she planted in one of the back areas spread so fast it started to take over the world and I had to erradicate it with extreme prejudice.:)

Will be interesting to see what this new stuff does.:)

She just loves trying new stuff in the gardens!

mmmmm....olives for tea.
Never heard of such a thing.
Always thought they were for martinis and salads.

Must be a local thing.

Is the thing she's trying in the gardens plant varieties, or your knee? :)

You know, now that I've had some coffee and a moment to think about it, it is possible to grow knees in the garden.

I planted a couple bald cypress trees down by the lake years ago. Never thought about them growing knees until I broke the mower when I hit a small one.

I can see that I should never leave you two alone without adult supervision.:)

At least this time I knew the name of the plant or tree or shrub instead of just calling it a "green thingie".

I don't actually know if you can make tea from the leaves or does it grow olives.

It looks like a small tree thingie to me. :)

Wow, guess what? The leaves can be used to make a Cinnamon flavored tea, and the flowers can be used to make jam! How cool is that?

Wiki has a good article on the Tea Olives.

Don't really know but the article did say that the stuff is full of anti-oxidants which of course are those good guy little thingies that go through your system taking out those bad guy thingies called free radicals.:)

Okay, uhmmmm, lets get back to tea olives!
:o)

I read the article on wiki, they are also used to flavor a sweet chinese wine. Don't know if you can smoke them. :o)

Now there's a movie line I hope I never get to use!

I'm sitting here watching the radar and looking at Sat images trying to decide if we're gonna get any rain tonight, the TV is on Showtime in the background, I'm not paying any attention to the movie "Traveler" that came on a few minutes earlier, all of a sudden I hear:

"I had to traipse clear to Macon, Georgia to bail your sorry (butt) out...!

Caught my attention real quick!

LOL

All I managed to do on WU yesterday was update my blog entry title and the new Vandenberg launch time. I spent half the day to visit one of the traveling Walls. Just an FYI, the 2012 Tour Schedule for that one includes Augusta, GA and Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Lamb Chops in the oven, with baked potatoes and stuff.
Had a busy one, but this Grenadian Westerhall Rum is going straight to my Relaxation Center, and the Sun has gone down fast!

Nothing going on weatherwise here, Ranger Rick seems to be in the clear, none of my other WU friends are in danger that I know of, and the lady had a rough evening, which I may explain at some later point in time, but my immediate mission is to make the rest of her night as pleasant as possible.

Have a good night and rest well my friends.

Hood out.

Well, it seems that I have arrived a little late, again!
Oh well, whatnot and stuff are encroaching upon my time.
But I did manage to see the West Indies beat Australia on TV this afternoon. Cricket, don't you know?
Playing in Barbados.
Good game too.

Check you guys in the Morning (but certainly NOT at 4:30 am like Snakeymon....)

Have a Great one!
