Storms for Storm Clean Up

LADY LAKE, Fla. (AP) - Search and rescue operations resumed amid fresh rain at daybreak Saturday across a swath of central Florida devastated by tornado-bearing thunderstorms that killed at least 20 people.

Curfews had been in effect overnight as displaced residents slept in shelters.

The storms struck early Friday, spawning a tornado that ripped roofs and walls off single family homes and threw mobile homes off their foundations.

Thirteen people had been confirmed dead in the Paisley area plus seven in Lady Lake, about 30 miles to the west, emergency officials said. The victims included teenagers and at least one child, according to authorities and witnesses who helped pull bodies from the debris.

State emergency management chief Craig Fugate said determining the exact number of dead could take days, and the priority was finding survivors who may be trapped under rubble.

I had a chance to watch a bit live. All the local news are on contunious coverage. WESH is streaming live on the internet.

Interesting was Governer Christ talking to Sen. Nelson. As long as it meet the criteria, as long as Bush signs it, FEMA trailers could be pulling in tonight. Instant federal aid should be coming, we've talked to them already. They were very optimistic. Nelson assured FEMA was all fixed now. Christ looked pretty shocked by the damage.

Our emergency responce & utilities teams looks like a well oiled machine. It's amazing, this state has had too much practice. Thank You GA~ sending people so quick & resources.

A few ways to help, don't drive in the areas affected & give blood or money.

ENSO make another slight move toward Neutral~ as expected...

elninometer

I couldn't get the ENSO update in PDF, powerpoint worked.

Interesting, refuring to the ESPI ~ rain over equator area of the Pacific~ anomalisly low as well as the lack of persistant clouds leading the high latitudes like the USA, to be feeling hardly any effects, since it isn't affeting our circulation patterns much....now a weak El Nio.

A quickning & now a majority to the model forecasts, neutral conditions begin during March-May.

+.3 in region 1&2. +.7 in 3&4.

The # that counts is region 3&4, the # +.7 & that gives the principal (now) #. Neutral has got to come from the average of 3 months before it's offical. So offically it most likely would be atleast March for it to be offical.

I think we very well may see neutral conditions (principal~ "now") well before June. Sometime in Febuary wouldn't suprise me. Monday is the next update...I expect to see more of a drop this coming week.

The ESPI took a dive now -.17 for the last 30 days... signals a cold side of neutral ENSO is on it'a way.

Good morning Redhead & Rays:)

The ponys want to know when they can live outside the barn again. We got continued drizzle & 60. This has got to be miserable on the clean up efforts, raining harder up there & the chance for hail. Who wants hail when you have no roof.

Actually all of ECFL is currently at low risk for lightning, severe wind, hail, flash flood & it's not a good day for boating. So heads up.

Ogal~ ran across a nice graphic illistrating your point of the lower placed, amplified jet stream. Reminising '83, we sure got lucky that year.

credit some MLB NWS research

You can see set up, the lower level jet on the 850mb vort models & the upper on the 250mb vort models.

Thanks everyone & glad to hear from the locals. Atmos hadn't heard from you all day, glad your good.

OGal~ Yes the same thing could happen again. That's the I-4 corrider, a notorious line, bad weather likes to set up on. When severe storms cross or even summer seabreeze storms set up, the I-4 corrider is good odds to play. If the low would have crossed farther south, I'd have been more concerned farther south too.

Worst local news title for the day~ Ch 6 Tornado Terror.

Death toll is to 19 now.

Skye, you told me that the worst weather would be to the north of me. I guess it has to do with where the jet stream comes across the Gulf. Am I right. If so the same area could be affected again.

Excellent blog skye. Glad that your area fared well. Mine escaped with small hail and some minor tree damage to our neighborhood. Unbelievable tornado in Lake/Sumter/Volusia, could be the first F4 in Florida since 1966.

Skye, you be careful! It just makes me sick. I just heard three more people were found. What can you do?? I take this very seriously and my husband laughs at me. I think we will see more of these storms and people if need be need to stay up all night. If you are in a moblile home you need to go to a friends' home or a shelter. There is no need for death.

According to my weather station our highest gust was 19mph and we had rain rates a 10 inches an hour. Once again we were soo lucky. When will we run out of luck??

Good morning all, love the fairy cat. Mines doing better.

I got time for a 2 min update..

Wind has irrived looking to be higher than forecasted. Though instability is still looking limited it keeps looking higher. Chance of some severe straight line winds are increasing. Rain chances gone way up with pwats looking like 2". Still plenty of uncertanties, will be interesting.

Should have more in a few hours.

Hope the evening is finding everyone well.

Ogal~ Yeah still tickled about the cat.

It's another surface low spinning up, of course the models are being fickle. Friday for some rain is a good bet though may start thursday night. Some have you as a cut off point for a decent rain with little falling south of you. The Gem has better coverage farther south as well. Other than a outside chance of lightning, nothing severe is being mentioned. It doesn't even have the wind potental look as the last one did.

I covered the garden lastnight, I knew in my gut no freeze but couldn't risk my good food.

mermaidlaw~ Hey thanks for the happy thoughts. Sorry to see your freezing, really only Febuary to go & the worst of winter should be about over, barring those late season blizzards of course:)

Mornin Skye, so glad your kitty is doing better. We just put so much love into these animals and hurt so when they hurt.

Just looked at radar. What is that little mess in the Gulf below La. I don't like those guys. They can turn into no name storms. What do you think??

Our lowest temp was 36. Did cover and bring in plants. I hate doing it, but don't want to lose anything.

Just let me know what ya think about this next round of weather that I guess will hit our area on Friday.

Thanks Love & Rays. The littlins finally done going that baby bunny is soooooooooo cute:)

CAT~ My cat, it's a miracle. I've watched alot of animals die & I still can't believe she's alive. Appetite picked up yesterday, she's walking out to hay the horses. Not playful yet, but not laying around struggling for every breathe. She's scared me a few times cause I'm used to watching her breathe from 40' away:) I'm taking her back to the 1st vet, I think it was pnumonia. Make sure it's gone. Everyone that kept her in your thoughts THANK YOU!!!! I really can't believe the turn around.
