Copyright Infringement at WU

I know, happens all the time. Today, however, we see a particularly egregious example from one of the resident tea bag nutters. He actually lifted Ross Douthat's entire column from today's New York Times and posted it on his own blog - without even acknowledging the Times. Certainly there are some sources out there that allow free reproduction of copyrighted material but the NYT is not one of them. This is from the Times website:

Can I reproduce New York Times material and photos?

All use of New York Times content (text, photographs, graphics, etc.) requires the permission of The New York Times.
Please be advised that when articles or photographs are credited to a source other than The New York Times (such as Associated Press, Reuters, or AFP), it is most likely that the credited source holds rights in the material. Please contact that party directly.
Rights to use current articles (text only) in most contexts may be obtained instantly by following the "Reprints & Permissions" link to right of most articles on nytimes.com. Corporate photocopying permission and the use of Times content in academic course packs or for classroom distribution is handled by the Copyright Clearance Center (copyright.com).
To request permission to use a New York Times article and/or photograph, please go directly to our online permission request form: www.nytimesagency.com
Due to the volume of material published in each day’s issues of The Times, we are not able to provide photocopies of single articles with photos and graphics. You may choose to order a back issue or a page reprint.
Requests for custom formatted reprints of entire articles, which include photographs and/or graphic art should be directed to:
PARS INTERNATIONAL
(212) 221-9595, ext. 210
Request a Reprint Quote

The minimum fee for the right to reproduce New York Times materials is $200. Fees quoted include a file for reproduction. A kill fee of $100.00 will be charged for each file submitted at the client’s request and not used. PLEASE NOTE: No political candidate, political party, political action committee, polemical organization, or any group formed for partisan purpose may use New York Times copy in any publication.

How many here think that Jer ponied up the $200 for the right to reproduce the Times material? Rhetorical question. Especially ironic when one considers the incessant chants of SOCIALISM-SOCIALISM-SOCIALISM. Yet he feels free to appropriate the property of another, probably in his mind to promote the common good. Also ironic when one considers the constant pratter about the rule of law in the US - a rule that exists only until it butts up against their personal prerogatives.

Make no mistake about it, this is theft. The NYT pays Ross Douthat to write his column and expects to be able to sell that product to cover expenses and make a profit for their shareholders.  People that illicitly reproduce IP are taking money away from the Time shareholders and putting Mr. Douthat's ability to make a living at risk.  To be honest, I'm really surprised that WU doesn't have zero tolerance on this stuff since their IP is at risk as well.

Spathy, no hate intended, yet I can understand why even posting what i did would upset you. I would never diagnose you just over blog statements even though you have presented over five of the symptoms of the behavior which in a clinical setting would be enough to classify you as such. If you truly are suffering from NPD I would feel compassion for you and hope you were being treated.

Tea?
Have you ever tried gardening?
I had the most wonderful experience today.
A long time customer of mine came in today and she looked more spunky than normal.
She thanked me for giving her advice on gardening.(She had always been a Beach of a customer)
She is getting older and I have seen a decline in her over the past 14 years.
She told me that my ;and fellow coworkers, advice gave her hope and courage to continue gardening.(she was a habitual plant killer)
She had been suffering from Parkinsons disease for the past several years and the drug treatment hadn't been doing a good enough job of controlling symptoms.
She came in today for the first time with no plant problems.
She just came in to pick up a few more plants to take care of and befriend.
She told me about how much better she had been doing because she was getting out in the garden daily.
She was walking,stretching,planning... Moving and thinking around her yard.
She told me that her doctor was wondering what was the cause of her new found inspiration and well being. She told the Doc that she had taken up gardening and had finally found success.
Her Doctor told her that that path was better than any drug he could ever prescribe.

Humor, happiness, achieving perpetual goals, its amazing what things can soothe the savage beast of plant killers.

There are people in this world that always are grumpy.
They are usually grumpy because things arent going their way.
When they find the path to making things go their way. They find bliss.
And its a path that only an individual can pave.
Please find your inner peace.
Its alot more fun for you and the people around you.
Its a healthy place to be.

Plant a happy seed and watch it prosper and bloom.

Oh here ya go.
I looked it up.
Gotta love the Net.
You have been so helpful Tea with your diagnosis of me.
Can you show me how I exhibit these symptoms?
The reason I ask is because I must be in denial.
I look at this list and just deny the symptoms.
I think that must be one of the symptoms.
So in your wisdom please help me see the true Spathy.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Narcissism is a term used to describe a focus on the self and self-admiration that is taken to an extreme. The word "narcissism" comes from a Greek myth in which a handsome young man named Narcissus sees his reflection in a pool of water and falls in love with it.

Narcissistic personality disorder is one of a group of conditions called dramatic personality disorders. People with these disorders have intense, unstable emotions and a distorted self-image. Narcissistic personality disorder is further characterized by an abnormal love of self, an exaggerated sense of superiority and importance, and a preoccupation with success and power. However, these attitudes and behaviors do not reflect true self-confidence. Instead, the attitudes conceal a deep sense of insecurity and a fragile self-esteem.

What Are the Symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder?

In many cases, people with narcissistic personality disorder:

Are self-centered and boastful
Seek constant attention and admiration
Consider themselves better than others
Exaggerate their talents and achievements
Believe that they are entitled to special treatment
Are easily hurt but may not show it
Set unrealistic goals
May take advantage of others to achieve their goals

Other common traits of narcissistic personality disorder include the following:

Preoccupation with fantasies that focus on unlimited success, power, intelligence, beauty, or love
Belief that he or she is "special" and unique, and can only be understood by other special people
Expectation that others will automatically go along with what he or she wants
Inability to recognize or identify with the feelings, needs, and viewpoints of others
Envy of others or a belief that others are envious of him or her
Hypersensitivity to insults (real or imagined), criticism, or defeat, possibly reacting with rage, shame and humiliation
Arrogant behavior and/or attitude

I dont know the link rules on this site but I am sure that when they know I suffer from such a drastic disorder I will be declared incompetent to suffer the consequences of the law.

After reading that,I cant help but be reminded of the Progressive Party and those that occupy Wallstreet.
It must be a symptom but let me just work this out on line.

Just a note:
There was a comment directed at me that was deleted?/removed. This is not my blog but honestly I think the comment should stand. I invited it. And I find humor and lessons in the strangest places.
There wasnt a threat made. And it can be a teachable moment.
Not to mention a reflection of the mindset.
I see the comment still stands because of my quote.
Does anyone know the rules, should I edit my quote?
