Is there really another chance for rain from a system sliding down from the PNW? All the forecasts show it, but the percentages are low as of today (Sunday). I'll take it, though - if it can make it!
Weather here has been very nice lately, plenty of sun, highs in the 80s - as long as you live or happen to be 20 miles from the coastline. It has been quite foggy there and struggling to make the upper 60s. The lower desert is plenty warm, Borrego set a record yesterday of 103 and it is the same today, per WU's reporting station.
Glad BC is getting a good population of Rufus hummers hanging out. I rarely see them now, as they just pass through and don't stay here. That 3 feeder line has been well crossed in my yard, this year I began keeping a log of sugar purchases. Since January - over 200 lbs! Methinks my calculator must be broken :)
After about a month and 2 weeks since the first Hooded Oriole sighting this year, the first fledgling was sighted yesterday. Their antics in the backyard make the weekends that much more enjoyable.
I will have to move on to the next bee remedy, the cucumber peels seemed to have no effect here. The bees just used them as a foot hold to get a better position on the feeders. I think I'll try calpoppy's 'oil on the feeder' next.

I have germination on my desert willow seeds. A little water works wonders :))
We are using the veggie oil every day and it is working. Not every bee is eliminated but it sure is better then what it was. Be sure to use a pastry brush, it will be much easier to paint on.
We now have three different Orioles. Scotts, Hooded and Bullocks, and more of each of them every day. I have an Oriole nest in my house that we found a few years ago. Woven using the same material it is a work of art. It had never been used and sits up on our Saguaro cactus arm that is mounted on the wall.
200 lbs of sugar!!! Wow! You do have a lot of hummers!!!
In fact, you could get quite a soaking and maybe thunderstorms, too. Lucky you! No graupel with this one, though.
At least you're getting some sun in advance. Some of us have had nothing but clouds forEVER.

If I found I was using that much sugar ... I'd have to let the hummers fend for themselves, I think :-/
I wonder if you (and calpoppy) could add a few drops of citronella oil to whatever oil is being put on the feeders. That's best for keeping flying pests away but don't know how it works for bees or what the birds would think of it. It wouldn't hurt them, I don't think, but might keep everybody away.

cal, I have only seen Hooded orioles here :( At our last house (still in Escondido) we had a couple tall fan palms and had nesting orioles several years. Have only had nesting house (or purple) finches at new house, even with all the hummers and the few orioles.
sp, will try the citronella, seems logical, unless someone says otherwise. If I did not get so much peace and enjoyment from the hummers, I would be tempted to cut back a bit - but not at this time...oommmmm :)
Your hummer situation still amazes me and I have told other people about it and no one can believe it - so many of them! And 200 pounds of sugar in a short span! I hope they realize how well taken care of they are!
My son was just down in Los Angeles last week and weekend. He enjoyed the weather ( of course, he missed some of our best weather in a long while!) and saw a few sights, although he was there for a conference mainly. Very different in many ways from our neck of the woods! Well, keep a weather eye out for some rain!
We're now into weather that I would say is more typical of late March/early April: showers and sun breaks changing every few minutes. And continuing cooler than normal.
