Severe Weather Pounds Eastern States

Severe thunderstorms rolled across the Eastern United States this afternoon bringing high winds and hail up to two inches in diameter. Storms stretched from Boston to Maryland and back westward through Indiana and Ohio. At one point this afternoon, there were over 50 active warnings in effect for severe weather and flooding.

Wind gusts over 60mph toppled trees and downed power lines in many areas. Crews are actively working to restore power but some officials said it could be well into Thursday before all customers have service. While some of the activity is beginning to push out over the Atlantic, other areas can expect to see the threat continue well into the evening hours.

Residents should keep an eye to the sky and be prepared to seek shelter if storms approach. Coastal states should get a break tomorrow as the main threat for storms shifts back into Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky.
