Bicarbonate of Soda Day--Friday, December 30, 2011
We won't need "bicarbonate of soda" today. Three generations of three families will be getting together for a big meal and all are excellent cooks. We have been getting together to celebrate the holidays continuously for over thirty years. A good day for those that have to travel. Lots of sun, but cold. The temperature at 9:50 a.m. is

Forefather's Day--Wednesday, December 21, 2011
We arrived back home after a quick visit with relatives on Grand Manan and in St. Stephen. Both trips on the ferry went well and the highways were wet with no ice. Quite a bit of fog in places. The temperature at the lake at 11:00 p.m. is 0C (32F) and forecast to warm up overnight.
From Grand Manan--Tuesday, December 20, 2011
Visiting the island for a quick pre-Christmas visit with our mother and brother and family. Windy but still a pleasant hour and a half ride on the ferry. A sun and cloud mix here, but temperaures just below the freezing mark.
Look for Evergreen Day--Monday, December 19, 2011
I don't have to "Look for Evergreen" today--already been done on "request" from herself for some to use for decorations. A bit chilly to be out looking for evergreens today. The temperature at 10:00 a.m. is -10C (14F) with calm winds.
Bake Cookies Day--Sunday, December 18, 2011
An appropriate name for the day. Number one daughter was complaining about procrastinating over making four and a half dozen cookies for a "cookie-exchange" at work. A good day to spend at the stove. The temperature at 2:15 p.m. is -9C (15F) with an easterly breeze.
Maple Syrup Day--Saturday, December 17, 2011
Celebrating "Maple Syrup Day" in these parts would have to use product from the spring. Several months away before making Maple Syrup around here. Mostly cloudy with the sun peeking through on occasion today. The temperature at 2:45 p.m. is
-7C (19.4F) with a northerly breeze. Discovered that watching 10 year olds play ringette can be quite exciting. Oldest granddaughters team pulled the goalie and tied the game in the last minute.

Not sure about "chocolate covered anything"--ants for example. Cloudy with rain in these parts today. What little bit of snow we had is now gone and the lake is open again. The temperature at 11:00 a.m. is 6C (43F) with a southwesterly breeze.
Bouillabaisse Day--Wednesday, December 14, 2011
The food being recognized today is something that you don't see on our menu very often. Cloudy in these parts today with a temperature at the lake of 0C (32F) which would explain why the lake is frozen shore to shore. Some mild weather on the way, so should see open water again for a bit.
Ice Cream Day--Tuesday, December 13, 2011
Would rather celebrate this day in July or August rather than in chilly December. A sun and cloud mix in these parts today. The temperature at 7:30 p.m. is 0C (32F).
Poinsettia Day--Monday, December 12, 2011

Take it in the Ear Day--Thursday, December 8, 2011
You will get wet snow in the ear in these parts today. Blowing wet snow and very windy the forecast for the day, then the mess will freeze as the temperature falls this afternoon. The temperature at 10:30 a.m. is 0C (32F) with strong northeasterly winds. No curling today, so it was suggested that I help with the Christmas cards....
Letter Writing Day--Wednesday, December 7, 2011
It was strongly suggested that a Christmas letter would be nice to include with the Christmas cards--sounds like work to me.... A grey day in these parts, fog and drizzle the pattern. The temperature at 3:20 p.m. is 1.5C (34.7F) with an easterly breeze. Heavy winds and rain in the forecast for tomorrow. A good thing I plan to be inside at the curling rink.

A good day to stay inside and knit mittens for the "mitten tree". Overcast rain and drizzle in these parts today. The temperature at 3:45 p.m. is 7C (44.F) with a slight easterly breeze. Just back from town, I curled and Herself did some Christmas shopping.
Bathtub Party Day--Monday, December 5, 2011
The youngest granddaughter (eight months) had quite a party in the bathtub at our place the other night, she had a lot of fun and entertained us royally. A very pleasant day at the lake with lots of sun and a temperature of 9.5C (49F) and a northwesterly breeze. A good day to cross window washing off the "to-do" list.
Roof Over Your Head Day--Saturday, December 3, 2011
A "skiff" of snow down overnight. Cloudy at the lake today with a temperature of -1C (30.2F) with a northeasterly breeeze. Looks like I have to help with some inside chores on Herself's list before I can tackle my list.....
Fritters Day--Friday, December 2, 2011
Sun started the day, but now clouding over. A skim of ice on the lake this morning, but now gone. The temperature at 2:00 p.m. is 1C (33.8F) with a northwesterly breeze. Just did a bit of Christmas shopping on line--now that's the answer, some sites will even gift wrap.
World Aids Awareness Day--December 1, 2011
Welcome to December Write a Friend Month. A pleasant temperature today with a sun and cloud mix. The temperature at 5:30 p.m. is -2C (28.4F). Most of the outside Christmas decorations up, just a few more to do. I probably have ruined my reputation--it's usually cold, snowy and windy by the time I get around to doing the chore.
