November. Finally a reversal of monsoon winds, so that now we get drier and cooler winds from the north out of mainland Asia. More clear days and nights. Relief. Less sweat. (Yet we will get our unpredictable hot humid spells, even during our “winter.”) Out walking at midday, it was like a fine summer day in northeastern USA.
Blessed coolness. Zen delight.

Yes, the Rainy Season has come at last, blocking the sun and cooling things off a bit. The Royal Plowing Ceremony was yesterday, which officially ushers in the Rains season. The Crown Prince officiated in this rite that goes back to the India of Siddhartha Gautama’s time, ca. 500 BCE. Absolute temperature of 90*F/33*C plus a Dewpoint of 76*F/24*C = a Heat Index of 104*F/40*C. Sweat City. The cool season is ending. Wow. I forgot how hot the Central Plains area around Bangkok can get. …~^~…-Zenwind.

The local Bangkok news said the temperature in town got down to 57*F (14*C) last night. It is definitely the coldest I’ve seen it here in a few years. A huge ridge of cold air has been coming down from China. In Thailand’s mountainous north, the news media are describing occasional reports of “frozen dew-drops,” aka, frost. The TV news shows film of frost on plants and cars. Provincial governments in the north are handing out emergency supplies of blank...

Yes, this is the comfortable season in Thailand. Like a rare fine summer day in the northeastern USA. It is December, but the trees are still blossoming. The humidity and dewpoints are unbelievably low for here. From March to October it is sweat-city, but now we relish the coolness. I feel very sorry for the many farang tourists whose vacation plans were canceled by the recent political unrest, but it is most unfortunate for workers in the tourist industry here...
