Battery Won't Charge at All
If your computer runs normally on the AC adapter, but the battery won't charge, please try the following troubleshooting steps:
Check the Battery and Connections:

Remove the battery from the system.

How to remove the battery
Look at the connectors in the bay and on the battery for signs of physical damage. HP ProBook 4405 battery

Check the battery charge by pressing the status button or image on the battery near the LED's.

Note: The lights indicate the current amount of charge on the battery. If all the LED's come on when you press the button, the battery is fully charged. If fewer lights are lit, then the battery is partially charged. If any lights flash, or blink, there could be a problem with the battery.

Consult the Tell Me How guide for more information on battery LED's: HP ProBook 4405s battery
Where to find the Dell Tell Me How and User's Guides
Reinsert the battery; push until it locks into place and the latch snaps back to the locked position.

Swap Bays or Try A Second Computer:

Some systems can run with the battery in either bay. Try swapping bays if you have one of these systems.

Click here to see a list of systems that can use the battery in either bay
If you have access to a second computer like your own, try to charge your battery in that system. HP ProBook 4406 battery

Flash the BIOS:

Flashing the BIOS can correct many hardware issues.
How to Flash the BIOS
Run the Recalibration Utility if Your System has One:

This utility runs the battery all the way down and then recharges it completely. The process takes several hours so it is best to run it overnight. Use only the recalibration program specified for your system. Using any other program could void your warranty! HP ProBook 4406s battery
Latitude LM, Inspiron 3000 and Inspiron 3200 systems use this recalibration program:

BATRECAL.EXE
Inspiron 5000, Inspiron 7000, and Inspiron 7500 systems use this program:

I75BRCA0.EXE
Latitude LS, Latitude L400, Latitude X200, and Inspiron 2100 enable a recalibration option on the Power page of the BIOS Setup Program: HP ProBook 4410s battery

How to Enable Battery Recalibration
Try to charge a second battery like your own if possible.

If the second battery won't charge, the problem may be caused by the charging system in your computer.

Battery Won't Hold a Charge
If your computer battery is not lasting as long as it used to, try the following troubleshooting steps.
Boot into the BIOS Setup and let the battery run down. HP ProBook 4411s battery
If the battery runs down just as quickly when it is simply accessing the BIOS as when it is actively running Windows, the cause is probably not Windows' configuration or the way you use your computer. If the battery lasts much longer, you may want to follow the suggestions in this Dell Knowledge Base article FA1011122 at this link:
Factors that may cause a battery to run down quickly
Reset the BIOS Factory Defaults.

How to Reset an Inspiron
How to Reset a Latitude
Flash the System BIOS.

Try a second battery if possible.

If the second battery has the same short life as the first, there may be a problem with something besides the battery.

AC Adapter Doesn't Work
Verify that the AC adapter brick is receiving power.

Shut down the computer and unplug the adapter from the system first and then from the power socket. Wait 5 seconds.

Plug the adapter directly into the wall socket, bypassing surge protectors, UPS units, or extension cords. The adapter LED should produce a steady green light. HP ProBook 4413 battery

If you do not get a green light, try the adapter in another wall outlet in another room or verify that the first outlet works with a lamp or hairdryer.

You can also isolate the power problem to a bad adapter by swapping it out with a second adapter - such as one for use with the port replicator.

If the adapter LED lights, check the computer for bad connections.

Examine the system power socket to be sure it does not have any bent, missing, or pushed-in pins. HP ProBook 4413s battery

Plug the adapter connector directly into the computer, bypassing surge protectors, extension cords, etc. Be sure that the adapter connector fits tightly into the computer's power socket.

If you have access to another computer like yours, try your adapter on it or its adapter on your computer.

Warranty on a Dell Battery
Because portable system batteries contain chemicals that degrade over time, reducing their ability to hold a charge, they are considered to be consumable items like printer cartridges rather than permanent system components. HP ProBook 4416s battery For this reason Dell warrants the batteries for one year after the original purchase date of the system regardless of the warranty expiration date on the system itself.
