Watching winter weather - from my window
Posted by: carolinagal, 2:08 PM GMT on January 10, 2011 +0

My previous entry said "watching the forecast again" but now "it's here" and I'm watching the weather, not the forecast.
There is not a lot expected here (watching the forecast) but it is still unusual for us.

the snow beginning (carolinagal)
This was less than 10 minutes of snow. Wondering will we get more?

Do you see the word SNOW in the weather sticky??? (Well, "light snow?") Yes, we've had snow for about 30 minutes. There was already some sleet on the ground, roof, etc. from around midnight. This snow is kinda loud & I'm thinking there is some sleet or ice mixed in with it.

hi, sandi!

What a difference ten minutes makes. This is no longer LIGHT snow! I've already got photos. Better keep my camera charged.

hmmmm.. wonder where I could find a sled?

CG, are the girls out of school?I sure hope so. Have a nice day. If you have to get out drive slowly. Remember sometimes brakes don't work.☺

My goodness gracious... it sounds as though there's going to be some trouble in the SE today. Actually, it seems there already is.

I hate the aggravations that come with your sort of weather, but on the other hand - if only you could escape rain, sleet and ice and have a lovely couple of inches of snow to play in! Unfortunately, "bumper cars" is too often the game for big people when this happens!

The "heavy" snow lasted less than 10 minutes... maybe only 5 but it was beautiful! Standing outside to take the photos felt like a blizzard... hehe, I'm from coastal SC - what do I know??

Ogal - yes, the girls are not in school. I actually acquired an additional teenager overnight. I didn't wake up the sleeping ones to see the snow come down. I'm hoping they will get to see more later. And don't worry, I'm not going anywhere.

shore - This certainly does not look like our town. I am worried that there will be plenty of ice.... let's just say I'd feel better if I knew HOW to get my gas logs to start.

Oh how fun! Especially since you get to stay at home. Did they call a snow day because of the snow? Or are the girls out of school for another reason?

Good to see you!
Not so good to see the snow.... I'm a beach person so I don't like the cold. It is pretty to look at for a day, then I want it gone & sunshine shining! LOL

Hope all is well with you!

Just announced: Two-hour school delay tomorrow. That seems pretty obvious, but glad to hear the news already. We never had any more snow (sorry girls, I didn't wake you up for the "snow show.") Then the rain melted most of what was on the ground. Much of the afternoon has been freezing drizzle & it is really a mess.

BT - You know that I can't imagine that much snow. I was certainly thinking about you this afternoon.... I had to call the heat repairman! My heat pump (outside part) froze into a huge piece of ice. He broke away the ice and reset some "defroster" dial or something.

Foxx - We are lucky that this will be a short experience here. The snow was pretty, but it is mostly cold and nasty. Okay as long as I don't have to be out in it.

Karen - OF course the staying home part was fun. The weather is the reason the girls were out of school. It will be interesting to see how the school schedule adapts to this. The high school students are getting ready for exams in a few days... and then "scheduled" for a long weekend off. A nearby county was supposed to have high school exams today, so I bet the cancellation messed up their schedule also.

sky - It's been pretty much like that all day. Definately cold and nasty, without the pretty.

I bet my daughters might be begging to go to school tomorrow cause we might wake up to a cold house. Earlier today we had problems with the heat pump & it seems it has iced up and stopped again. Hubby is trying to break up the ice now - but this could be a long night.

garden - that was all the snow. I'm glad I took some photos before the rain melted it.

It's still 32 degrees here, but there doesn't seem to be any ice. All schools and businesses were open by 10:00 this morning. Hopefully everyone is careful. There were plenty of traffic accidents in this area yesterday.

The new WU interface doesn't seem to sort the blog list in the usual way. I guess they haven't written the part that sorts minutes ahead of hours ahead of days.

The good news is that I'm visiting some folks that I haven't talked to in a long time.

The spate of warm weather in the southeast has been most welcome. I think it saved us from this last storm. Could it be that spring really is peeking around the corner?

Not rabbits rabbits rabbits, as in another month gone by, but a whole year of rabbits now!!!

"It is now the year of the rabbit - it is a year of placidity and respite, a carefree, happy year that will be both temperate and relaxed.
It will be a welcome change from the explosive year of the tiger that was last year."

Sandi, thanks for the greetings. It would have been okay to skip my blog... Of course, I'd expect email!

I think of everyone... just not keeping up with this blog. I'm thinking if I change it for spring, I might not leave it open for comments.

Huri - I have heard from Caro - and she is OK - she survived the storm, even though it came very close to her.

Huri - thanks for checking. I had looked at your blog checking that you were safe, but I didn't think about leaving an update.

Thank you, sandi, for responding.

I definately need a new header for these moments that my blog gets popped up.

The radar and weather tracking was pretty scary here yesterday, but somehow the area was spared damage. Some areas of the county did have some tree and structural damage. So far, I'm only hearing "word of mouth" stories and nothing from official sources.

Happy Mother's Day, Caro!

Have Hubby and the girls have something nice planned for you today? Or were you coming to town to see your folks?

Whatever it is, I hope you enjoy it.
