Dense shrubs and trees make nice sheltering places for different types of birds. Right now, four types of sparrows and some juncos are making use of my shrubs.
Certain plants encourage butterflys to lay their eggs on them. For instance, dill attracts black swallowtails. Sure the catapillars eat the dill down to nubs but watching new swallowtails sun fresh new wings before their first flight is amazing.
These are the ones I have from Lowes. They are relatively inexpensive compared to others available, and work great!
