El Niño Conditions Now Official; Cold, Snow Take a Parting Swipe at East

Dr. Jeff Masters, March 6, 2015

Director of Meteorology, Weather Underground

More than a year after the prospect of a 2014–15 El Niño event first surfaced, NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center (CPC) issued a long-awaited El Niño Advisory on Thursday. That said, we’re still a long way from a textbook example of El Niño: ocean warming is barely above the standard threshold, and the atmospheric response is not yet fully formed and consistent.

Let’s call it: 30 years of above average temperatures means the climate has changed

Dr. Ricky Rood, February 27, 2015

Professor, University of Michigan

Those who are under 30 years old have not experienced the climate I grew up with. In thirty more years, those born today will also be living in a climate that, by fundamental measures, will be different than the climate of their birth. Future success will rely on understanding that the climate in which we are all now living is changing and will continue to change with accumulating consequences.

26-27 November 2014 Nor'easter

Zachary Labe, November 25, 2014

Northeast Weather Analyst

A low pressure will develop off the Southeast coast and move northeastward along the stalled front off the eastern seaboard. Precipitation will develop and expand across much of the Northeast by early morning Wednesday. Marginal cold air will limit the heaviest snow accumulations across inland locations along the foothills of the Appalachians. Most areas east of there will face slushy accumulations of less than three inches in addition to some rain.
