14:10, 86F at front door (south) under porch roof. 92F at back door (west). southerly breeze, sunny. a lot of crow babies up in the pines begging their parents for food. a lot of adult crows avoiding those big crow babies. there's lots of food around. did a wash, hung it out. washed out the small dog house. watered plants. young dogs (newdog and lil pup) helped. dixie came out from under the house to set yellow dog boundaries. everyone understood. got one egg.
now we are all going to take naps.
21:10, 77F. fog forming. waxing gibbous moon close to full. outshines all the stars. seems like it took forever to get all the chores done this evening.

05:30, 65F, clear. stars out. roosters crowing, songbirds tuning up. yellow dogs under pear tree. going out on the water.
08:30, high tide on the suwannee. all of our sets were either in the delta or in the back creeks to the north. water was higher than usual but not excessively. the water was very dark with tannin. there was just enough breeze to keep the bugs away. partly cloudy. we did 2 pulls with the 600' seine and 5 with the bait net. lots of juvenile anchovies in the back creeks. otherwise we got a little bit of most everything we usually catch - stingrays, catfish, mullet, baitfish, reds, ladies, sheepsheads. and several lovely gray snapper. they are beautiful fish. the water was chilly at first. we passed one small peat island where the storm had smashed all the vegetation. every blade of marsh grass was laying flat on the ground,
pointing to the east..
15:30, 85F, blue skies and sunny at the farm. have feed to unload in the back of the truck, eventually.
21:10, 75F, fog rising. got feed unloaded, fed everyone, walked inside dogs, got 4 eggs. b'rer rabbit tantalizing dogs in the lane. stars out. waxing gibbous moon over the sheep pasture. good night.

06:50, 67F, clear, blue skies and sunny! roosters up. newdog and lil pup knocked themselves out chasing each other around the yard. hanging up a wash. another inch of rain in the gauge. a huge limb fell out of the dead 200 yr. old live oak by the sheep barn. took out the fence but I got it patched.. good-bye debby..
10:30, 77F, sunny with a north breeze. 2 pileated woodpeckers flew over the house. fawn in sheep field. got one egg.
11:00, actual medium tide going out at CK. upper 70's, NW wind, 5-10 knts. light chop by the sand spit. sunny. office work and general meeting. tomorrow we are double tripping with 2 boats since we are behind in our sampling schedule due to small craft warnings and debby. one crew will work north of the suwannee, the other will work south. oh boy! possibly the currents will be fierce and the water high if the suwannee behaves like it did after the hurricanes of 2004 when we got 2 ft. of rain in 3 weeks.
16:30, low tide at #4 bridge. woodstork drifting over the marsh. swallow-tail kite perusing the pines at the curve. went to hay guy's and got another 10 bales. his bales are lighter but his prices are cheaper and the hay smells so fresh it's a pleasure to go into the hay barn.. got 2 eggs.
20:30, 75F, foggy. stars out with haze. waxing 0.57 moon! 2 deer in sheep field. 1 deer checking out the wild grapes on the edge of the sheep fold. green, marble-size grapes are already falling. even some pale purple ones. cabbage palms blooming - they smell like honey.

05:30, 75F, the calm woke me up.. not raining so I ran out and walked all the inside dogs. walked new pup who helped me feed the chickens and the parrot. did not give sheep hay to encourage them to get out of the barn and walk around some and forage on the leaves, branches, and moss blown out by the wind. some good pecan branches with young nutlets on the ground.. finished the first round of chores just in time. it began raining just as I was removing my boots. got 1.7" rain last night which makes the total rainfall for the farm in 2 days = 1 ft. after all the rain we've gotten , there still was no standing water in the ditches alongside the road.
downtown CK was flooded at high tide between 2nd and 4th streets.. and "the dock" and most, but not all, of the restaurants are closed. "annie's" was open yesterday, betting it's open today, too...
08:30, 77F and raining. crows calling, roosters crowing. sheep disgruntled.
11:00, high tide at CK going out - not. upper 70's. south wind, 25-30 knts. with gusts. partly cloudy to overcast with sporatic showers. white caps and choppy in the back creeks. egrets taking shelter on the edge of the marsh at the mainland.
frigate birds. wrack line on edge of road.
14:30, very high low tide. rain and gusts. deputy comes into the market where I was purchasing some supplies and says the storm's moving into dixie co. and CK should expect flooding at high tide. back at the lab, the 2:00 bulletin says the storms speeded up and expect flooding.
15:20, super high tide. heading back to farm. swallow-tailed kite. 2 turtles crossing 345. cows lying down. very breezy. sprinkles.
15:50, 80F, south breeze. walked all the dogs except the ones hiding under the house. got 0 eggs. frogs carrying on.
20:20, 77F, overcast, NE wind. drizzling and misty. gusts. miss seeing the moon. but very glad for the rain.

06:40, 75F, mostly cloudy, some blue showing. stiff breeze from the south. got 10.3" rain yesterday.. CK is missing some docks. but I just have limbs and palmetto fans all over the yard. roosters up and crowing. a break in the rain, going out to walk dogs and give out hay.
hay in laying boxes soaked. replaced that. donkeys came in from the woods and got some fresh hay. sheep's hay in the barn. starting to drizzle some.
11:00, very high low tide at CK, choppy with whitecaps. south wind, 25-30 knts. gusty up to 37 knts. rain on and off, sometimes heavy. mid 70's. a few egrets in the marsh. breakers all to the south of the islands.
16:00, high storm tide coming in. a raft of brown pelicans near #3 bridge. overcast and drizzly.
16:30, raining at the farm with stiff south wind and gusts. electric's out. called electric co. on my cell which was almost dead. they came out and gave me electric again.. walked newdog in big rainstorm.
18:00 76F, bands of rain and wind moving over the farm. glad to have electric and water.
21:10, 76F, raining. didn't have any lulls at chore time. got soaked several times but wore my foul weather jacket in the sheep barn because of the leaks and the cobwebs.. sheep staying dry, though. they have plenty of room since I sold a bunch. got 1 egg. thanking the puppy I found in the sheep yard is a terrier mix. she's shy but smart. she's learning the yard outside the finch aviary which is attached to the workshop.
the lights flickered a few times so I filled some jugs with water. I have a gas stove so I can cook, but my water comes from a well which needs electric for the pump. in south florida I had a hand pump but this well is too deep for a hand pump.
it's so dark outside that the light gets swallowed up. easy to get lost out there..

10:00, 78F, overcast. got 0.4" rain yesterday. sold 6 ram lambs. they led us a merry chase between the barn and the barn-yard. but we finally got them cornered one by one and tagged their ears and loaded them into a trailer with pot-bellied pigs in the front part.
newdog kept up a steady bark the entire time we were wrangling those rams - which is what she should do. afterwards she got praise and a dog biscuit and 10 minutes of running around the yard.

08:05, medium tide rising at CK, upper 70's, wind east, clocking to the west through the day.. 5-7 knts. seas, 1 ft. swell. went trawling offshore. catches were low except for 1 trawl thorugh the seagrass behind north key. we got over a dozen flounder, small to doormat size, and quite a few YOY speckled sea trout. those little trout, once they get passed the mottled stage, look exactly like the big ones except small.. also caught the usual seagrass critters - pinfish, pigfish, filefish, pipefish, uncle eds, anchovies, etc..
took awhile to work all those fish up. seagrass flats are teaming with life - the nurseries of the sea. but above the surface, visible sealife sparse - one sea turtle sighting. otherwise the usual gulls and pelicans.. off the out islands, the water was clear beyond 3 meters..
the green sea - with the tide going in, the suwannee's influence was moderate.
16:00, full high tide at #4 bridge. no one on fishing dock..
16:40, mid 80's at the farm. partly cloudy, partly sunny. brisk breeze from the north.. puppy was yelping for food. kibble and milk fixed that. walked house dogs. chili for supper. got 2 eggs.

I didn't get anything done today but the chores and a chicken thigh chili. I keep telling myself, at least it won't be so hot ...
shearers showed at 17:30. a friend who's familiar with shearing dropped by to help out. by 18:30 the sheep had been moved and shearing commenced. everyone was sheared, wormed, and hooves trimmed, except the 2 day old lamb. we finished just as the light was fading. chili for supper.
