So Close, Yet So Far Away ....

[UPDATE: 02.16.12 ]

I didn't have time to peal the image and make a map again, but noticed that today's Xtreme temps were in roughly the same places as yesterday. So for another FIRST, this was the first time with a double-day where the Xtremes temps are so close togther! Interesting.

I thought y'all might find this bit of trivia interesting.

WU extreme temp distancesI have been paying rather close attention to the Extreme HI and LO for the day, posted on the Default WUnderground website.

Today I noticed the phenomena where the extreme temp positions were quite close - adjacent continents!

This is the closest I've ever seen the temperature locations be so close together.

Not sure what it says, but it in interesting.

I have been watching the high and low temperatures for quite a while .... just for personal interest, of course, no scientific reasons.

I found in late January/early February the extreme cold temperatures were all in in Siberia.... where the depression that caused all the cold weather in Europe came from!! Now why don't we get weather from the Sahara instead? lol
Have a great weekend!

[les replies] - I for both, personal and scientific research; and I've noticed some very interesting patterns. Yes and now with the cold air mass so suddenly switched to the southern polar region is quite interesting. And that the centers of heat and cold extremes are both in the same hemisphere, too. Interesting.

You likewise - have a fab weekend. Do hope it's a bit warmer. We are slated for near 50F today (26C roughly) - w/ sunshine, should be a very nice day today. But it's still winter so the temps they do vacillate a bit. ". ) Stay well. See 'ya on WU!

SAY! BTW .. have you hear anything from Minouchette - our Belgian connection on WU? I was looking to ask her some questions; sent WUmail and as well on her Flickr site; no response. She doesn't show any activity since late JAN 02, 2012; here on her WUblog. ?? Thanks.

Hi, Les.

Sandi, WE get weather from the Sahara. Every summer. Not the kind of weather we like, either. Those swirlies......

Haven't talked with Miss M in several years. When I first joined WU, she was pretty active. She posted a good bit back then.

Good to see you Bugg! Thanks for dropping by. I hope Miss 'M' will answer. I'd like to talk w/ her. Hope she's OK, too.

Take care.

Hi Les - I didn't know you actually reopened your blog! It is much quieter around here on the old WU, but I like it for longer posts and learning about weather.

I often look and the high and low in California, and during the summer months the high temps are quite obviously taken by Death Valley and the low temps, quite often by Truckee. But oddly enough, they are sometimes the high and low for the nation as well.

Good to see you back! I'll add you to my favorites and make swinging by a habit!

[les replies] ...Hei Karen! I'll try to be on here more often, and make your 'swing-by's worth your time. ". )) I have asked the folks here at WUville for some archived info on world extremes. I know they posted the data, but don't know if they actually archived it. I hope they did. Sure would be some very interesting study data.

Yes, Truckee can get quite cold. And even though DV is the hotter-than-hell spot in the US most of the time, it can get REALLY cold there, too! And the wind is known to blow some really strong blows there, too.

Weather for the unforseeable future will be really a grab bag of potpourri ! I don't envy anyone who is in the forecasting biz!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a super week!

It's all good Les! I missed a lot when I wasn't here as well. I'm definitely sure that many folks have no idea who we are haha. Hopefully they will find out! We've been here since... man oh man, a long time. May 25, 2006 for me. Hope to see more of you here, I'll get around more as well, in time! Have a good one!
