good morning everyone!

Thank you.. Rob, love the song! LOL

Yes, when I put in A LOT of effort I can clean up pretty good. Had a great time.

Bug, I hear you about beaches our Ft Lauderdale beaches are very hard to get parking nearby and very expensive. We don't really have great sea shells either.

Jeff, our March of Dimes 5K is first Sat of May, I need to get myself back up to running 3 miles in a row again... You don't ever have "down" time do you? LOL

Ylee, thanks! I have several of the Giant Conch shells also being used for decorative purposes..
they are a work of art!

Rob, ag ain thanks for the music!

Scott. LOL Thanks!!!

OK, I have pictures of Stacey, Ellen and Christian I need to load up so I am going to open a new blog thread... Ellen came here to see the pictures and I did not have them up yet.. so going to do that now..

Will set up new blog thread now...

Thanks!!

Hi, Gams!

Very nice avatar pic; you certainly clean up good! LOL

We had some heavy, heavy rain yesterday afternoon. Not until all my laundry was done and back in the house, thank heavens.

Parking on our local beaches has become so restrictive, not to mention expensive. IF you can even find a spot. Which makes it not worth it for me, fighting all the traffic to get out there in warm weather to just walk around for an hour. It's a bit easier in the winter, I'm sure, but I'm just not all that inclined go anymore. Not like when I was younger and went out there to see and be seen and soak up rays.

Sad, ain't it?

Morning Gamma!
Glad your enjoying the weekend. It's been so nice out there.

I'm having a very mixed weekend. I got up at 6am to run a 5k yesterday that a friend of mine organized..he raised a bunch of money for a homeless cause. Then I went to work from 12-7. I was supposed to go to another friend's birthday party after that, but was so exhausted, I wasn't sure I could even do the half hour drive to his house. I just went home and collapsed.

Today I'm going to work from 10-3. Then I head downtown for a walkthrough of Hope Floats, our event for Tomorrow's Rainbow.

One of these days..I'm going to rest! I just don't know when.

Lovely shells, Gams.

You found a wider variety than anything we have here.

We get arks, those 'boat' shells, pens, some olives, whelks, those fan shaped things that are so easily broken, some tiny shells, very colorful, that Mama always called angel wings but I'm not sure what they really are.

I think I've found one scallop in all the years I've lived here and walked the local beaches.

Sadly, the last few times I've been out on the local beaches, I found absolutely nothing worth picking up. About 10 years ago, a friend and I went out in Feb/Mar, right after a full moon and high tide and neither of us found a thing. All we got out of it was a nice walk and lots of fresh sea air. I guess that's not too bad but we were disappointed.

seflagamma, What a wonderful collection of shells you found! I really enjoyed looking at all of the photos. I grew up on the beaches of Indialantic Florida and shelling was something that my mom and I would spend hours doing every weekend.
I think that I can help to ID some of the ones that you are unsure about. Starting from the top of your photos. :)

We'll start with the augers. The shell at the bottom of the photo is most definitely an auger. The others, that appear more "knobby" look to me, like Florida Cerith's (Cerithium floridanum).

The dove shell looks to be a Chestnut or McGinty's Latirus.

Those are definitely Blood Arks. The brown or black part on the shell is present when the animal is alive in the shell as a form of protective coating. It rubs off after death.

The Disc Dosinia could be the large Smooth Tellin (Tellina laevigata).

The unidentified cockle could either be a Yellow cockle or a juvenile Prickly cockle.

The iridescent shells at the bottom are Atlantic Jingle Shells. I used to have jars full of them. They come in so many beautiful shades.

I hope that this helps you! I love seashells and it's always nice to find someone who seems to enjoy them just as much!

Read back two posts only after seeing fun pics. Happy you had fun on Anniversary w/end! Congrats on longevity! I'm with Scott, w/out seeing his post however. There IS a reason panhandle folks stay put. Even tho living in Big Bend area now, sooooo jonesing for the Emerald Coast again. I can say this with confidence, growing up in S.E. FL wilds, with a KY interlude inbetween, GO BIG BLUE! Nothing like the Panhandle for beauty, and all around great living. Yeah, we do get cold now and then, just reminds us of how great we have it 10 months out of year though. No real crime, no traffic of real S FL any longer either, even with the northern blue hair folks (gahh!) and other southern folks who don't understand what a roundabout is. LOL Paradise it is! Beaches are to die for as well. :-) Hear you and hubby are coming back up our way as well this year. Let me know, may even be able to book same place as well for you again if want! It's good to have friends you know. LOL

I need to get out and do my walk/run then go grocery shoping this morning while I have the time without grandkids...

Yesterday I did clean out some of my "cold weather" plants.... harvested the last of the broccoli and cauliflower and some lettuce.

I pulled up the rest of the broccoli and cauliflower plants they were rotting and the califlower this year did not do well at all..
My lettuce has bolted so I need to pull it out.... and just keep it clean or find some hot weather plants to grow...

I have some sweet corn seeds but have not had any luck growing them at all.. may give it another try.

Thanks everyone for stopping by.. I will try to check back in later today if I can.

Good morning my friends... I know I posted earlier in answer to Scott's post..but I guess it did not take.

Scott, you are right the Panhandle folks stay put! LOL

LT, good to see you.. our contractor did our Master bedroom and bath about 2 yrs ago and I still love it. He has done a lot of work in our neighborhood; our neighborhood has sort of adopted him since he is around so much! He is very good and with us at both of our visits to pick out cabinets and to get the blueprints, etc... he knows what he is doing and he listens and included a few items I wanted.

It will be nice to have a new kitchen and get the rest of the living area all painted.

Skye, maybe your area does have more seashells than we do. We had a lot back when they did off shore dredging after Hurricane David but in all the years I went to our beach, I never really collected really nice shells like on the SW Coast. Maybe because your area does stick out moreso and we do down here.
Thanks for stopping by...

Great shell pics. I didn't realize the pickins are slim is SEFL. We get piles up here. Probably has something to do with sticking out there. We get higher than average tar balls too.

Congrats on the new kitchen coming!

Thanks Gamms for the shell pics. We re-did our kitchen along with re-finishing our floors and painting and some other work last may/june. The whole process lasted 5-6 weeks, and yes the house was a big mess, but in the end it was worth it. My wife comments almost every day how much she loves the kitchen and the whole house. So good luck with it, it should be fine, just hope you have a good contractor, I'm sure you reaserched it so it should be fine.

us SE Coast Florida folks got to SW Coast of Florida..

Hi Shore,

Yes, we have been planning this for 2 yrs and now it is going to happen. Going to be a big mess for a long time but it has to be done..

Stay safe with the storms coming your way.

Good morning, I did load up 21 photos of my seashells here before Noly and I left for Breakfast.
and they all got approved so I will put them in the header so they are easier to see.

I have a liminated "The Ultimate Guide to Florida's Gulf Coast Shells" for Cedar Key to Marco Island; however I suspect it would work for Sanibel and Ft Myer's areas also just a little further north.

And once again I loaded my pictures here before FB.. I have not even loaded them up there yet.

Hi, Gamma ~ Just a quick hello. We've got weather coming, and I'm trying to get around before it hits, as it looks like it's going to require a computer shutdown.

I see you're doing your kitchen - at least that's what I think I see. I'll be back later to read back and see what the news is!

Ylee, I was busy yesterday but thought I posted here... guess not.. went on a 5 mile bike ride, then ran some errands.. and spend all afternoon, well 3 hrs outside in the sunshine cleaning up all my beautiful sea shells from Marco Island. I also took pictures of them by groups so I can load them with their proper names... according to "The Ultimate Guide to Florida's Gulf Coast Shells"... will try to do that today if I can.

Pros, I saw that photo composit over on FB and love it.. thank you for sharing it here to lend beauty!!!

GG, that sounds like you had a great time! Glad you got out to do more fun stuff. We had a very busy weekend here but got a lot accomplished.

Hi, thanks for the St Paddy's Day greetings. I was at a Sci-Fi convention. Was just tickled to see a Star Trek Klingon warrior with a green bowler hat and shamrocks for the day.

Looks like your vacaion was awesome. It's nice to have some quality time with the hubby in such an ideal location.

And now a new kitchen! Dang, but you have been busy.
Sounds like it is going to be gorgeous.

WOW I had visitors!!!

LT, Patti, Bug, SPL, Plap, thank you all for stopping by always so good to hear from you all!!!!

Been a very busy day, I did make my "slug" self get up this morning and go for a 3 mile, walk/run/walk...
I have been so lazy this year and must do better..

then had to get dressed and ready to go meet contractor at Home Depot...

It is done, we offically ordered our new Kitchen Cabinets this afternoon, we went with KraftMaid Cabinetry. Style/type: Sonora Maple. Stain color:Cognac. Should be delivered in 5-6 weeks. Demo will start week earlier... This is just a small part of the decisions.. still have to pick out granit counter tops & back splash, that must work with the tile floor & cabinets..large stainless sink& hardware, cabinet pulls.new microwave & dishwasher...already have stove & fridge...and so much other things going on!!! Exciting but a lot of work ahead..That old 1986 Kitchen deserves to be put out to pasture, it has served its time & paid its dues..

Then hubby had to stop by and see a friend how has not been well, then we went to our favorate Italian Resturant and had an early dinner...

Going to call it an early night...

Busy day....no rest at all...

Hi Gamms, thanks for the vacation Pics., My wife and I can't wait to get down to Del Rey. We'll be there Sunday the 15th of April. But I have to admit, our weather up here has been GREAT!. Out side of two days, this past Thurs. and Fri., when it was in the 40's, it has been btween 65-70F every day for the past week or so, and should be warm, for us, at least for another 5 days(Low 70'sF)! It is funny though being outside and 70F or so, and having all the trees bare, almost like the dead of winter. But now we are starting to see buds on the trees and the forsythia is starting to get green. Of course the croquasis(I know its spelled wrong) are out. Take care, LT

Ewwww.... employee evaluations.

That is one of the reasons I've never aspired to climbing up the ladder at work. I'm perfectly happy to be low man on the totem pole! Give me something to do, put me in a corner and, then, just leave me the &^^% alone to get on with the job. The very idea of having to manage people gives me the ooglies.

I like to think that, as one of the 'Village Elders' in the office and having seen and done so much over the years, that my opinions and suggestions carry some weight.

Still, several years ago they implemented something called 'Peer Reviews", in which you evaluate yourself and any other coworkers they decide to assign you. I really hate doing them.

I had to do them about 4 weeks ago, before I was moved, on myself and my coworkers in my old unit. Friday, my new manager had me do them again on myself and all of my new coworkers! AUGH!!!!!!

I just whipped through them, checking everyone off as 'consistent' in all respects and not making any comments about what they need to start doing, what they need to keep doing, what they need to quit doing and what they need to do to improve. I know them all but have worked fairly closely with only 3 of them. As for the rest? I haven't had that much contact with them on a day to day basis nor do I understand their jobs well enough to provide an adequate assessment. I'll be able to do a better job the next time. I explained as much to my manager, who was cool with it. It was just time for her to do her unit and she wanted to get them done and out of the way.

Jeff, I had a feeling you were doing volunteer work at the Garden today, it was beautiful..
Glad you got into the St Patrick's day spirit!

I wore my Key West, Irish Kevin's shirt...
it says "I came, I drank, I don't remember!" LOL

Along with my St Patrick's day braclet and several green beaded clover necklaces, etc...and Shamrock Pin!

I am finally home!!! Yeah.

Now going to go watch a little mindless tv and relax!

Back again for a fly by. It is beautiful out there.
I was at the Garden this morning for a volunteer work day, decked out in green socks and a green shirt..and a leprechaun hat! The pastor absolutely loved it..said I was the first Jewish leprechaun he's ever seen.

Came home and took a nap..just got back from a two mile run. I have a 5k next Saturday to do..then the Corporate Run the Thursday after. I hope my knees hold up.

Oh, this time I have already taken "before" pictures of the kitchen in all it's
"worn out 1980's glory" LOL
I did not do that when I did the Master Bedroom/Bath reno a few years ago.
So I will have the "before & after" pictures I know we all enjoy seeing.

Rob, I know actually there is about 2 months of "Spring Break".. different schools different times.

Sandi, LOVE IT!!!! Perfect for work nights but tonight is NOT a work night so I think I may need more than that!!!

Also.. there is a BIG Difference between
Disney Land and Disney World.

Disney Land is in California.. that is where Karen goes all the time.. and it is the Original. But her Daughter brought the boys to Florida two summers ago to see Disney World.

Disney World was his dream when he ran out of land in California. Walt bought most of Central Florida, drained a bunch of swamps and built a WORLD..
one "world" at a time.. and he still has plenty of land owned by Disney to keep on expanding here..

It is amazing..

I am about to make it!!! yeah..It is almost 6:45pm!!!

Tomorrow we are meeting our contractor at 1pm to order our Kitchen Cabinets...
the Kitchen reno is getting started...

I need to get some boxes so i can pack up the entire kitchen soon..

Hey, Gams - I have found the perfect bottle of red for you to drink on work nights!!lol

Oh, I am so with you on the "low-rise" jeans! They are so uncomfortable - how do the youngsters cope! I got my perfectly fitted pair from M&S (Marks and Spencer) - so I am all set to ramble through the heather. Although it will not be in flower when I go, I shall have to go back in September to see the purple haze:)

Scott - Disneyland... how wonderful, but you will find you are "behind" me whilst you are there!! lol

Spring break lasts about 2 months here. The college where Angie works and the local schools are off this week...kinda early, but the college goes with the local school board schedule because there are so many dual enrolled students.

Others will be over the next few weeks.

But you are right...even when crowded it's great fun.

Hi everyone, back from lunch break!!!

Scott, that sounds like so much fun. It is wonderful all your USA family will come in to visit while you are there.
And Disney will be crowded but weather will be perfect. A lot of schools (not college but some private and some public) still let out for Easter break as their spring break.
Broward County was out this week so they will only get Good Friday off around Easter.
But Boston (Betsey's area) got a week in February and will get another week at Easter.
go figure...
and the beaches in the P'cola area will be beautiful! I know you and the wife/kids are excited!! so is your family to get to see you again.
Happy St Patti's Day to you!

YLEE!!!!!!! That is GREAT. I love it..
too funny~!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!

Rob, glad you 'chimed" in here today... Always good to see you in my blog!

Jeff, Thank you!!! It is so beautiful outside I had to force myself to come back to work after my lunch break!

WP, so good to see you! I have not seen you around in a long time. Thank you for stopping by!!!

Scott, no matter it will be a great time! No all the schools will be out the week before or after Easter...

Thanks everyone for stopping by and putting smile on my face...
now I must get ready to key payroll....

this is the last Saturday I will be working for 2 weeks. We have "family friend" weddings
the next two Saturdays in a row (3/24 and 3/31) So next week only 2 day week and the one after that only 3 day!!!

That's awesome! I know you guys are gonna have a great time. It will be crowded because of spring break but the kids will love Disney!

The weather has been great here. Best time of the year to go.

Thanks Rob. I didn´t know when spring break was in the U.S. but no matter. The first time I went in 1977 was in August. Crowded, yes. But it was great. At least April will not be so hot.

Hi Patti,

You bet I am a true GOM Panhandle beach bum! We do have the most beautiful beaches, oil spills or not.

I will be in Pensacola visiting my mother in 2 weeks. My girls are out of school for those 2 weeks around Easter. Easter is a BIG holiday in Germany and all schools and alot of businesses are closed.

My sister will come from Texas and we are going to Disney world for 3 days. My brother and family will fly into Orlando from California. My girls have never been to Disney World and I haven´t been in almost 20 years.

First time we have all been in the same place in many years. Shouldn´t be too crowded as American schools are not out the days we will be there.

My oldest daughter loves the beach so I imagine that will be a frequent place visited while in Pensacola.

We hit 72 degrees yesterday and almost that today. However rain returns tomorrow and by Monday will be back down to 40´s daytime for a while.

Have a great weekend!
