Ended up with over 12.5" for two day total of Isaac in our neighborhood which was probably the most flooded in Broward County. Finally able to do clean up now.
Aug 26, 2012: now over 10" of rain and still pouring. That one long rain band the only one you can see that is from South East coast up thru Broward... that is training right over our area. probably nice on either side but not over us.
Our street is white capping ... water is in my neighbor's garage and about to enter ours, back patio is now half way flooded. Back yard and pool is under water.. we could float a boat down our street.

Already getting a lot of squally bands of heavy rain and wind. 30 mins ago we already had 1.5" just from last night and this morning, probably adding another inch right now in this rain band..
really nasty and it is not even afternoon yet...

Also, as of 11am, Broward is out of the "cone of doom" but still under Tropical Storm Warning. That means still very nasty weather coming out way with tornadoes since we are on the dirty side.
However, with that said, the next moving could put us back, it has flipped back and forth all week. And the storm was not torn up by Haiti and may not spend much time over Cuba. So do not take this lightly here in the SE Coast.
The Keys are under a Hurricane WARNING now, this is going to ramp up into a hurricane soon.

I got him finished again today... he is still wet that is why he is on the painting table outside. Hatch does startle people who walk into our backyard sometimes!

Flood advisories all over the place. We're downtown and it floods at the drop of a hat. The street in front of my office flooded out. They had to shut down our campus shuttle buses. It was raining so hard I couldn't see out the windows.
I think it's about stopped now but it's still really, really dark out there.
I pity the poor sods that didn't bring their lunch today!
It looks like the storms are going straight north, and staying well west of where Gamma lives..and even where I live.
There's not much more on the radar south of us, but it looks like there may be something forming as it crosses the Dade/Broward line. I also see a blob in the Atlantic that is angled roughly towards us, but it's hard to tell.
I'm ready for this to be over! Someone turn the faucet off, please.
Anyway from this morning I will try and remember what I wrote but probably won't!
Sandi,I know, I had to do it did not want to have to listen to everyone telling me about all the "yard chemicals" that would be in that run off water, etc, etc.... Heck we've been so wet this spring and summer our runoff water was nice and clean! LOL Plus we made sure the kids did not get above their necks in that water and gave them a good bath in soapy warm water.

Skye, yes those Koi fish are just colorful carps which get really big! Oh the kids, big and little had a blast yesterday afternoon after it finally gave us a break in the rain. it was like a big block party!
NEw, we are SO very happy we did not get water in the house and it was a close call.. a little more rain and it would not have been a happy ending.
Jeff, glad you are draining, we are also, back in the late 1980's and until 1999 our drains were a mess and a summer rain storm would back us up like yesterday...but they came out and fixed all our drainage canals and been working good the past 12 yrs... except when you get like 3" in one hour, it will back up but eventually go down...
Now we can see the grass, sidewalk and street still underwater but you can see the grass and half of the driveway...
Bug, you may get some of this rain... those rain bands are still east of Florida.. there is another one out there but lucky not over my head right now.
We are still getting helicopters flying over head.. not sure why now...water is receding.

I think I have pool problems now.. I was trying to manually vacuum some of the leaves out of my pool and I was doing it manually so it would NOT get stopped up.
I was shutting git off and cleaning it out before it got too full....... and it got stopped up anyway. I assume.. I cannot get water into it from the pool..
I fear a lot of leaves and twigs have s mushed together and blocked the passage way.
If it is not one thing it is another!

Glad you came out OK as far as your house went. It looks like Pensacola will only get moderate gale winds and maybe a 3-5 foot storm surge. Not good news for beach homes but wind is more of an issue for my mother as she lives inland a bit.
Today was warm, 81 degrees, dry, sunny and low humidity. Rub it in, rub it in.......LOL
I would think with this 12.5 plus the 3 from earlier and prev week.. my area should be close to 20" of rain for this month.
This storm is really keeping those long training bands of rain over here on East Coast... very unusual..
the center of the storm is south of New Orleans and the rain is still over here.. weird...

It only took me an hour and a half. Instead of leaving town the way I usually do, I thought I'd try another route. BAD, BAD decision. I ran right into traffic backed up due to flooded streets. Managed to work my way back to the street I should have taken, in the first place. After a few more bad turns, trying to find my way back. It wound up taking me an hour to get out of town. It should have only been 30 minutes today. On a normal day, maybe 10 minutes.
It's still raining but lightly. All the little sparrows are mobbing the feeders and I've even spotted two hummers. Poor things, they can't fly or feed in heavy rain. I guess they're trying to make up for it. I do have a newly filled feeder out there.
I put that flooded Market St. pic on my blog and I've emailed the photog to ask if he/she minds. If they do, I'll take it down.
We're still to have more rain tonight. How much more, who knows? My gauge had over 6 inchdes in it but I'm not sure just how much. I spilled some, as I was measuring it out.
Hope the morning commute isn't too bad.
First time since Sunday morning! Still water in street and sidewalks but they are starting to reappear and people can get down the street now in regular vehicles.

I am pleased to announce our sidewalks and streets no longer have standing water on them. YEAH!!!
of course the ground squishes when you step on it.
I know I am on vacation this week but have appmts every day. I am meeting a friend for lunch at 1pm.
Her job was "re-engineered" little over a year ago and she worked in HR for many years and is really an expert in a lot of that stuff.
So I want her to take a look at my paperwork before I sign it and return it...just to make sure everything is in order for peace of mind.
Plus she is a long time friend of hubby and me.
I forgot how hard it is to get 2 kids ready for school in the morning. Those "sweet" grand kids are not so sweet in the morning. Even little Rylee can drag her feet, not get ready, and make her Mama nuts!
They don't want to eat their breakfast, they want to watch cartoons, they don't want to brush their teeth. etc...
I remember those days but I had 3 kids 2 years apart in age! I have no idea how I did it back then.
Anyway, will be in and out today..

Isaac is just sitting there pounding them all.
He is growing up way too fast and getting so big.

We're still wet. We got almost 2 inches last night and today. Well, probably about 1 3/4.
No more flooding, that I know of.
It did come down REAL hard again last night. Started about 8:30 or so. Then tapered off to a light rain.
Jeff, many areas of downtown Charleston sit right at sea level. A lot of it is built on fill. Many of the pipes in the drainage system are wooden or brick and over 100 years old. The system just does not do the job. Esp when you get real heavy rain. Flooding like we got Tuesday doesn't happen very often but when it does? Jeeze, Louise.....
The city is slowly trying to address this problem but it's a long process getting the money. They're doing it one area at a time and installing pumping systems to discharge excess water to the Ashley River (I think).
Bug, Thank you..I know he is so cute. Betsey has been after me to send her some baby pictures of herself from newborn to 1 or 2 yrs old. I keep telling her he looks like a baby boy version of her as a baby.
With Baron being the mirror image of his daddy, Bets is glad this one looks like her....as she says, it is only fair!
But my scanner has not worked since I got back home, it keeps saying it is not connected but I know it is..

WOW I cannot believe this if Friday and I've been on vacation all week and have been so busy it has flown by.
Everyday there were appointments and things I had to get done, etc. and still so much to do today.
I have my follow up visit to doctor from 2 wks ago to find out exactly what type of arthritis I have and how to make sure it does not get worse.
I feel fine and most of my stiffness is old age...and my back problems are just back problems..
I must admit some of my appointments this week were "self imposed" like my mani and pedi and facial!
At my age I need them so they are almost necessary!
Yesterday was Ellen's 33rd Birthday , my baby is 33 now YIKES> And this time 33 years ago we had Hurricane David on the way to SE FLa.

Did you read Sun Sentinel today? Looks like the new sheriffs within Broward County School Board are finally cracking down on the waste within the departments of the school board. They are cracking down on duplicity of jobs and nepotism for starters. It's about time!

You have what, five days to go? My mom had her last day Wednesday. She said it won't hit her until t's time for her to go back to work Monday, and she won't have to!

Ylee, Oh yes, we were drowning out here Sunday Monday and Tuesday. They pull full open the drainage pumps and now even the canals are much lower than they were before Isaac; which I am not so sure that was a good idea; wht if we don't have rain for a while now???
Actually I am on vac this week, then next week I work the "short" week... Thur, Fri and Sat...
then I am off on Vac again (notice I took long weeks for vac weeks!)
Then I go back Thur and Fri, Sept 21st is my last day.
If retirement is anything like this week has been I will need to go back to work to get some rest!
But I know eventually things will settle down and I will get some me time.

arthritis is not the Psoriatic arthritis (at this time anyway) nor the Rheumatoid arthritis..
it is the good old fashion common Osteoarthritis and it has not changed that much in past 15 years.
The few places it is showing up has not grown and therefore I should just continue to exercise
but "don't" run on concrete only blacktop softer pavements. And do more walking, bicycle, swimming, and elliptical machines than running...
And keep my weight down as I am doing..
of course he wants me to come back every 6 mos to keep check...I told him how about every year so he agreed...
but I am not going back for about 3-5 more years.
No need if I have not progressed any more than that.
No xray of the knee but got good shots of hips and lower back and hands...
He said my back pain is "skeletal" not arthritis related.
I do still have psoriasis but I can keep tht under control with creams and not have to take the serious meds for awhile longer.
So one doctor down...and I still need to get yearly physical and dermatologist...skipping the OBGYN this year.
Now I am home I must get my pool back to running...
I love that place, I could spend hundreds there with their resort/outdoor wear and shoes not to mention fishing equipment. But alas, I am on a budget!

I'm noticing my right index finger's first joint it getting a bit 'bumpy' looking, so I expect I've got a touch of Uncle Arthur, too. No pain; it's just getting 'that' look to it.
The sun came out today. First time we've seen it in a while. Of course, it hits all that moisture and the humidity is awful. The skeeters, too. How they breed and hatch out so fast, I dunno. I was outside for 5 minutes last night and my ankles were just eaten alive.

Bug I am very lucky, I rarely get a breakout where you can see it...mine is more so in back of head, sometimes on chest and elbows and occasionally internal which I cannot use "cream" on. Dermatologist tell me I am very lucky because where I get it can get really bad but because it is not in areas that "show" it does not really affect my appearance. I thank God for that; if you have to have an incurable problem like this mine is the best way to have it. While you don't wish it on anyone I normally can keep mine under control with a little careful attention and remembering to apply my cream "before" it really gets bad. And sometimes mine will go into remission for a few weeks.
It has been proven that outbreaks can also be "stress related" so hopefully a big part of my stress will be gone in a few weeks. Heck I have been so happy lately I don't remember when I have felt this good!
And yes, I have a few of those "knots" on my finger joints; main reason I went to doctor is to make sure they don't get worse!

I did get the pool pump working and unstopped the cleaner line that was stopped up with leaves and debris...even used my new little devise to unplug one of the jets in the hot tub so now all 5 of them are working again. YEAH!
And then got the pool all nice and clean again..

Am I becoming one of those "old people" who get up early on days I don't have to ??? LOL... That sometimes happens to me when I'm off. Kinda disappointing, isn't it? You're in a dead sleep on workdays when that alarm goes off but up early on 'off' days.
I think you'll find your sleep patterns will change, though. You'll get your circadian rhythms back to what nature intended, instead of being artificially controlled by alarm clocks and work shifts.
I've been sleeping in a good bit on Saturdays this summer. I've not being going over to see my cousin every week, now that she's moved to a retirement community. So, when I first wake up on Sat, I roll over and go back to sleep, instead of getting up.
It's not because I don't want to go over; she's never 'home'! She is in assisted living, rather than a free standing house or apartment. They have so many activities going on, that it has been hard to pin down a time when she's not doing something. I can call numerous times each week before I get her, instead of her machine.
I miss seeing her as often but, at the same time, I'm really happy that she's out and about and being more active, making new friends and doing things. Happy for her; kinda sad for me, since I haven't seen as much of her. Before she moved, she was spending more and more time just sitting in her chair in the den, waiting for someone to call or stop by. Now, it's all right outside her door.
I can understand how stress can aggravated a chronic condition. I have IBS. Stress is a big component on how/when I have effects from that.

I must have missed the one when she moved... I have not been as attentive as I should have been this past year..
So far so good, I got a lot done today, now hot sweaty and itchy!

I had some really nasty yard work to get done.. that back West wall (the one all our pictures are taken in front of because of the green background..
well ever so often that must be reeled in and trimmed... and that job is not for sissies..
I started out in a swim suit and flip flops..and kept getting itchy stuff on me and making me nuts.
Plus was afraid of encountering a snake or other critter in my flip flops..
so did what I should haVe done first with that type of job.
Over my swim suitI put on sweat pants and long socks that cover, with those hard full on working boots.. then a light weight long sleeve turtle neck and gloves..
I was covered head to toe so no longer afraid, I went in with my clippers and saws...
and 8 large bags later ( I clip everything up in small pieces so it can be bagged).. it is done.
I nearly died in heat index of 100 in all that gear but much better than being afraid of getting bitten!
Now tht 20 ft lengh of fence has been reclaimed and ready for another growing spur!
May tackle a few more areas; but may not.. may get on the raft in the pool..
it is about 89 degrees and that is about right...
Been a good week off .. except for the flooding earlier this week!

Bug, it was so hot, after I finished that one project I got out of those hot clothes and back in the pool
and just relaxed and did a few things like cleaning my bird feeders and putting them back out.
Today I want to do a little more yard work in back hammock area and then clean up my patio.
It has looked like a storage area for months now; since the renovation..and I am ready for it to be a living area again!

For doing all that trimming and bagging, at least try to find some type of long pants and long sleeved shirt that are thin material. A light cotton; something old and worn out and thin. Go to Goodwill, if you have to, and find something like that to hang in the garage for doing hot weather yard work.
Dip yourself in the pool, between jobs today.
I've been wanting to redo my front walk for quite some time now. I heaved a few of those flagstones around back in July. I'm still not quite happy with the layout and, as they are, they're still blocking water from flowing from that side of the front yard. (It's an accummulation of dirt and stuff from several years that has silted it up.)
I think I need to curve the main walk more towards the parking pad but am still not quite sure how to do that and also keep some curving the other way, around the corner of the house. I only have a certain number of flagstones and am trying to work with what I have, rather than buying any. I don't think I have enough, though.
I won't buy real flagstone. I think I've seen some imitations made from concrete at either Lowe's or Home Depot. Those are probably cheaper than the real thing. I thought about getting some square or rectangular stepping stones but those would be a stark contrast with what I have. I don't mind using imitations, if the look is the same.
I'm waiting for cooler weather to do any more work. Those flagstones are heavy.

Bug, Lucky yesterday the trimming I was doing did not involved needing to be covered from head to toe, and we had a slight breeze yesterday which made it nice.
And I got a lot more accomplished yesterday.
Now today already at it trying to prune the tree and large bush to get it ready and cut off weak branches.
The hardest part of cutting everything up and bagging it! I love making the cuts but not the bagging.
Sort of like the cook does not want to wash the dishes afterwards and clean up the kitchen! :o)
So back out there this morning already; thank goodness I have the pool to take breaks in when I get hot.

I will be doing a lot of "labor" today; I want to get most of the back yard done by Wednesday and get the patio cleaned up. I need the back yard done before I can clean patio.
My yard was already neglected this year (with all the inside working being done) before we got flooded last week. Flood water can make for nasty as it recedes.
Ellen is going to make roasted chicken so no big BBQ today.
Hubby's BD is Sept 11th (I think it is a Tuesday) so we are going to have the family over and a few friends next Sunday. That is why I am busting my butt to get it all cleaned out before I go back to work Thursday.

and we said we would go "halves" to replace it...
but no one wanted to go "haves" with us and we ended up replacing the entire fence on all sides..
made them all happy they did not contribute a penny to that fund...

I finally finished another "project" I've been working on for few weeks.. my plaster alligator, "Hatch" which I have redone before because he keeps getting broken and paint blistered from the sun and heat... I got him repaired again and finished painting... and his final coat of Poly...
he is looking good again!
Very tired, I did get some R & R in the pool this afternoon so the entire day was not just big work.

I don't think I'd ever seen him before. I thought he was one of those three piece deals. Head, back hump and a bit of tail, that you just place out in the yard. Looks kinda like it's partly underwater.
