Create a Weather Forecast with Coffee

This is a tip my grandmother taught me when I was kid. Using your morning cup of coffee, you can decide how to dress for the rest of the day.  Add cream or milk to a freshly-brewed cup of coffee and watch the bubbles. Check them before drinking.
1. If they move to the edge of the mug very fast, you can expect clear skies for the next twelve or so hours. Leave the umbrella at home.
2. If the bubbles move slowly, there may be some rain or snow in the next few hours, but overall the day should be fine.
3. Get your umbrella if the bubbles stay in the middle of the mug-- this is a sure sign of rainy weather for the rest of the day!

I'm not entirely sure how accurate this method is. I personally prefer my weather station and the television, but I'm curious to see if this old wife's tale has worked for other people. This is especially true as I almost always have a cup of coffee by my side.

Power Surge Kills Computer Equipment

Last night we had a thunderstorm in Louisiana and a rather nasty power surge killed my router and modem. I just replaced both pieces of equipment and am finally back online! Boy have things changed since I last bought my wireless router. The old one used wireless-b. Now they're on wireless-n. I opted for the Linksys E3000, which includes a Gigabit switch and is optimized for Internet gaming. I get great coverage everywhere in the house.I also needed a new cable mode...

Buying a Rototiller

It might be the middle of summer, but I have some landscaping I need to get done before fall. It involves a lot of digging and planting, so I'm thinking about renting or possibly buying a rototiller. The problem is, which should I get? The guy at the local garden store wasn't very helpful. I definitely want a rear-tine model, but don't know whether to get a Mantis tiller or one of those expensive BCS tillers.Advice, anyone?
