Happy Clare Day!
Posted by: ycd0108, 11:27 PM GMT on July 09, 2012 +2
Friday 13th July is now "Clare Day" according to one of my favorite bloggers:
http://www.monbiot.com/2012/07/09/anomie/
Now back to this aging entry:

I got home from the hot roof and Tloml was on the phone with my brother-in-law, the Nuke/Phys so eventually she told him I wanted to talk to him about the news of detection of the "Biggs Hoson". So our conversation started out fairly confused. Eventually the Ph.d. figured out what we were asking and started carefully to say that he only knew what was in the the news but he was going to look in to it. Then he carried on for a while regarding the significance of such a discovery.
He thinks it is very significant but I soon lost the thread of what he was saying even though he claimed to not know much about the details.
What did I take away?
Mainly that this Butterfly was probably plastered to my radiator on the way to work and survived long enough to peel itself off the grill and fall to the ground and get it's picture taken.

Afternoon Pat:
Could'a been for all I know. Existence based on big bosoms is at least tangible.
(That depends, of course, on the relationship of the tango and the tangee).
I guess I'm thinking of a baby at the breast. No concern about quantum there.

I see you're talking tech, along with Bogon's blog, so here's some tech talk from Goldie Hawn. Not about physics this time, but still pretty complicated and makes about as much sense as Higgs boson.

Dad based his existence on those, I think; six marriages later, I wonder if he thinks it was worth it! :)

Evening BriarCraft:
I may well have seen that clip when it was first aired but thank you for bringing it here. Folks (in showbiz) had a good sense of Humus way back then, eh!
Not that the recent ones are lacking - I just can not keep up with the newer references. And Goldie never needed to refer to anything.
I'm just guessing about the Butterfly but we saw it near the bow of the truck a few hours after we had parked there. It flew off eventually but I ha'e me doubts about it's future.

"Six Marriages?"! Your Dad must have been "IronMan". I don't expect to survive this one and only (I'm lying again.Slaps fingers) encounter.

Oh my
I'm worried about Monbiot. I have seen a number of the people I cherish go down due to depression.. I'm not talking "Feel a bit queasy". I'm seeing
"Depression of suicidal proportions".
I do not know how to contact him.

Happy birthday, ycd!

Simply put, dad is never one to be satisfied with anything, and has led a life of misery trying to reach that impossible dream. Sad, really. His life has been a template on how to NOT live mine!

Happy Birthday YCD.
I'll write it down and try to be on time next year.

Had a bosun named Higgs once. The lad liked the rum a little too much. Took off after a Tahitian girl one night and was never seen again.

Good morning Ylee:
Me Da' only had one wife and I used that template. I also use (somewhat) his attitude to perfection in building though he was much more fastidious.
It was not actually my birthday yesterday. I'm not sure exactly what I was referring to - probably a date in the Monbiot article.

Good morning Rob:
Here is the quote from the Monbiot article:
" As far as I’m concerned, July 13th is Clare Day, and I’ll be drinking a pint or three to celebrate and mourn him. I hope you’ll join me."
I'm not a big fan of birthday celebrations (maybe I've had too many?) but if you are going to write it down use the date above.
I read the poem George referred to and I'll have to study Clare's work a bit more before I can make any comment on it.

Good morning, ycd.
Thanks for following through on posting your BIL's take on Higgs boson.

Yours... well he)),

Big metaphorical WOW.

My guess, the Butterfly survives.

Barefootontherocks:
Good morning.
BIL did say he needed to study the information a bit and I'll try to tempt him to email me with some kind of summary and post it here if and when. He works mainly with magnetic guidance of particle beams in small cyclotrons and his main interest is musical instruments so it could be a while before the final report appears.
I hope you are right about the butterfly.

OrangeRoses:
I saw that on your well crafted blog. Good for you!
We are just drying out a bit here and temperatures are going up to 31C a few days out THEY say.
My home made "Rain Gage" now measures evaporation:
3/4" inch just now so we are drying at about 1/8" per day. That rate will likely increase as the surrounding moisture levels fall.
My house is surrounded with forest so I worry if the rains do not visit for a while.

Thought of you when I saw this:

Is It a Higgs Boson Imposter?
(discovery.com website)

If you want, you can download the entire 20 page PDF complete with equations that will give you a headache from the Cornell library here.

Short version...maybe a higgs boson...maybe something else, even the fingerprint of a "warped extra dimension."

Afternoon Rob:
Thanks for the smaller article and maybe someday I'll download the other but not today.
I read (parts of) a big thick book on Quantum Mechanics years ago. Simply skipped the mathematics assuming they had been solved correctly and looked at the implications and possibilities stated there. Guess I was first interested in this by a Scifi paperback by Robert Anton Wilson: "Schrodinger's Cat Trilogy".
That "Warped extra dimension" could be a result of some of the technology you are using to move the Ark.

My daughter called the butterfly in the first photo a Swallowtail. She also named the BlackandWhite/OrangeTip today but I don't remember what she called it.
One vivid childhood memory is:
An hoard of butterflies on some fresh apple peelings and cores thrown in the compost. Back in those days the compost was anywhere in the cow pasture.
How do I integrate butterflies, quantum physics and weather?
I don't. But I bet there was a typhoon in the west Pac. a few days after those butterflies took off.

Good morning.
I like Pat's thoughts.:)
My old Jacuzzi pump is old and the pump sits on a horizontal tank. There's no place to add air to precharge it. I'll have to check their site and find out how the bladder holds air.
Have a good day while we continue to cook on the prairie.

Morning Tony:
I don't think the older tanks even had a bladder in them. In fact there was a little "snifter" valve in the incoming water line that was supposed to inject a small amount of air each time the pump started.

Good afternoon LakeWorthFinn:
I had seen your announcement of the publication of your book Kun Lun and and meant to congratulate you so: I'll find it and read - maybe recommend it to Tloml's monthly "Girls Book Club".
Thank you for the belated birthday greeting. In fact my last birthday was about 363 days ago. The confusion arose when I referred to a George Monbiot article recommending a "Clare Day" for Friday the 13th of July.
I was born on the 13th of July but it was a Sunday and that is why I am so "Full of Grace".
(and full of some other stuff according to some)
I just read the Amazon tidbit:

I'm in!

"And all the boards did shrink."
Pretty intense out there today - I figure we did not get down off the roof too soon. Fitting compound angle valley cuts in full sun is no place to be feeling woozey. The trips to shade get longer and the time in the sun gets shorter until you simply "Bag it."
That is why I like working with Gunther: I just ask him if it's OK to call it off and I know what he will say.
Somewhere in my overheated brain I told myself I could have worked on if Gunther wanted to but now that some rationality has returned I know I was probably on the verge of heat stroke.

Evening Bogon:
Simple answer: Yes. As soon as the rain stopped we had haze but no fire. Initially CBC weather said it was coming from Idaho and Colorado. I looked at the local Sat. and that seemed to make sense: surface winds seemed to be training from the south east. Dr. Masters' take has my support though.
Tonight it was a bit less hazey so I'm assuming the smoke is being pushed a bit north.

I just printed this Monbiot article:

I hope you had a good b-day, ycd! If i could, I'd share a pint or three to celebrate only, no mourning allowed! :)

Let's just hope your feelings about Monbiot's mental state are unfounded.....

Happy "the rest of our lives" Ylee:
On second and third reading I'd say GM is OK. It was a "sparkling" day at the gathering yester:
I got a number of interesting books, (started to read "How do Astronauts go to the Bathroom"), a new Festool saw with about 9' of guide, Brunton Pocket transit, a sketch of me and Gunther on the new roof drawn by my grandson, couple or three bottles of fine Scotch of which I can only find one "dead soldier" 'cause Tloml had the good sense to hide the others.
Maybe I'll be able to make more sense tomorrow but the last guests just left.
I took "Before" pictures with me and Jupe and the next photo I upload will be a Bubble
