Watches & Warnings

Winter Storm Warning, Wind Chill Advisory
Issued: 9:26 PM EST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST
Wednesday...
... Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from 6 PM Tuesday to
noon EST Thursday...

* event... a series of upper-level disturbances will sweep across
the area over the next couple of days and nights... bringing
several periods of snow showers to the region. Snowfall totals
will be very elevation dependent... with the lower elevations
below 4000 feet receiving 1 to 4 inches... and the mountain
peaks above 4000 feet 5 to 10 inches... with locally higher
amounts. Additionally... wind chill readings will be turning
sharply colder with readings -5 to -15 from Tuesday evening
through Thursday morning.

* Timing... snow showers will increase tonight and continue
through Wednesday.

* Impacts... the snow will cause hazardous driving conditions...
especially on secondary roads. Travel is strongly discouraged...
tonight through Wednesday in the high mountainous terrain.
Unless it is absolutely necessary!

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of
snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. In addition...
snowfall intensities will be heavy enough to substantially reduce
visibilities at times. Travel is discouraged. If travel is
unavoidable... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.

A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and strong winds will
combine to generate very low wind chills. These conditions can
result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia or even death if
precautions are not taken. Those venturing outdoors should dress
warmly... making sure all exposed skin is covered.
