Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Plains, while also continuing across the East Coast on Friday. A low pressure system over the Rocky Mountains will persist on its eastward track and move into the Plains. Flow around this system will create northward flow, pulling abundant moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Southern Plains again on Friday, spreading northward through the Central and Northern Plains. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe across northeastern Colorado, into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds are likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front will slowly move eastward and offshore the East Coast on Friday. This system will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in these areas, but periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds will persist as this system lingers over the Northeast through Friday night.

Out West, an area of low pressure continues spinning over the Pacific Northwest, maintaining onshore flow. This will bring more rain showers to Oregon and Washington, with snow showers possible at highest elevations.

Through 3 PM...expect a scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across the coastal prairies and I-35 corridor counties. The heaviest activity will be from a line of thunderstorms that will move across the San Antonio Metro area to near a San Marcos to Kenedy line by 230 PM CDT. A few locations could experience heavy downpours over 2 inches...along with frequent lightning and wind gusts to 40 mph. Most areas can expect spotty rainfall amounts of 1/4 to 1/2 inch.

The National Weather Service in Austin San Antonio has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
northern Bexar County...

* until 430 PM CDT.

* At 129 PM CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists have
determined that heavy rainfall has been sufficient to produce
flash flooding across parts of the San Antonio Metro area.
Doppler rainfall estimates and ground truth reports suggest
over 2 inches of rain has fallen across some locations since
noon. Street flooding has been reported at several locations.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... San
Antonio... Universal City... Alamo Heights... China Grove... Cross
Mountain... Hollywood Park... Kirby... Leon Springs... Leon Valley...
Live Oak... Olmos Park... Shavano Park... Terrell Hills... the dominion
and Windcrest.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Runoff from heavy rain will flood creeks, streams, street
intersections, culverts and underpasses. Low lying places that
normally flood could become death traps. Do not cross any flooded
area. Turn around don't drown.

The National Weather Service in Austin San Antonio has issued an

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Bexar County...
south central Kendall County...
southwestern Comal County...

* until 230 PM CDT

* at 1243 PM CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists have
detected thunderstorms with heavy rainfall across the San Antonio
Metro area. Radar estimates and ground truth reports suggest that
rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will occur over this area by
130 PM CDT.


* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause minor flooding to
occur... especially along small streams and near low water
crossings. Some locations that will experience minor flooding
include... Boerne... San Antonio... Alamo Heights... Bergheim...
Bulverde... China Grove... Cross Mountain... Elmendorf... Fair Oaks
Ranch and Helotes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from this storm will cause minor flooding of small
creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses
as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross
bridges... dips... or other low spots if water covers the roadway.
Never try to cross a flowing stream... even a small one... on foot or
in a vehicle.
