The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* until 600 PM HST

* at 258 PM HST... radar showed heavy rain along a line extending from
8 miles northeast of Kailua-Kona to Honaunau. The area of heavy
rain was nearly stationary. Rainfall rates of up to 3 inches per
hour are possible. Emergency management reports Highway 11 south
of Honaunau and Hualalai Road closed due to water over the Road.

* Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to
Kailua-Kona... Kona Village resort... Keauhou... and Captain Cook.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring
in streams... roads and low lying areas. Move to higher ground now.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
Turn around... Don/T drown.

This Flash Flood Warning replaces the Flood Advisory that was in
effect for the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 PM HST this
evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* all Hawaiian islands.

* Until 6 PM HST this evening.

* A very moist air mass... together with an upper level trough just
west of the state... likely will produce locally heavy showers and
thunderstorms through this afternoon. Saturated soils from
recent and current rainfall across the state will increase the
risk for flash flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is very dangerous. Remember
that it does not have to be raining heavily where you are for
flash flooding to occur.

Monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to take immediate
action if flash flood warnings are issued.
