... Blizzard Warning now in effect until 6 am akst Sunday...

* blowing snow... will reduce visibility to near zero at times.

* Winds... east winds to 40 mph with gusts to 50 mph.

* Timing... blizzard conditions will continue through early Sunday
morning. The worst conditions will be tonight and Saturday with
visibility falling to near zero.

* Impacts... visibility will be very poor and snow will
accumulate into drifts. Whiteout conditions will occur. Travel
and outdoor activities will be difficult.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions in
blowing snow with strong winds and very poor visibilities are
occurring or expected.

... Strong blizzard over the North Slope through this weekend...

Blizzard conditions are now occuring across the Arctic slope from
Barrow east. These conditions will spread west to Wainwright
tonight. East winds will blow to 45 mph at Barrow and 55 mph from
Prudhoe Bay to Kaktovik tonight and Saturday. There will be white
out conditions and heavy drifting snow. Low visibility in blowing
snow is also occuring on the Dalton Highway as far south as The
Sag river dot Camp.

The worst conditions are expected to be tonight and Saturday but
the blizzard will linger into early Sunday morning. Winds will
decrease slowly on Sunday and conditions will slowly improve
Sunday and Sunday night.
