Weather Summary

Shaun Tanner
Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, July 19, 2008.

A low pressure system north of the Great Lakes will move over northern New England and continue to cause scattered showers and possible thunderstorms on Saturday. The system will drag a cold front over the Great Lakes region and could trigger some showers along its path.

A low pressure system will move into the High Plains on Saturday. The system will produce a stationary front which may trigger some severe weather over the Northern Central Plains. Temperatures will increase as the low brings warmer air into the region from the southern plains. The trough of low pressure is expected to extend southward and may kick up some scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Southern Plains as well.

In the Southeast, a low pressure system off the coast of Georgia and South Carolina has high potential for tropical cyclone formation. Coastal showers and thunderstorms will continue on Saturday as the system moves northward, up the coast on Saturday.

The Southwest will see high showers and thunderstorms on Saturday with abundant monsoon moisture. Expect heavy downpours with strong gusts and flooding in many desert areas.

The West Coast will continue to see mostly clear skies with the exception of some coastal fog and low clouds. Expect seasonable weather on Saturday.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 30 degrees at Polebridge, Montana to a high of 121 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.

The storm is over waters of marginal warmth, about 27°C, a degree above the threshold of 26°C needed to sustain a tropical storm. The warm waters are very shallow, and the Tropical Cyclone Heat Potential is near zero, meaning we're unlikely to see rapid i...
