Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, May 15, 2008.

The large low pressure system in the Bay of Biscay will slowly roll northeast, transporting Atlantic moisture across the Iberian Peninsula, France, Germany and northern Italy Wednesday. This will result in widely scattered precipitation across the southwestern and central Europe, with heavier rainfall rates in France especially.

Moving to the British Isles, southern England will also be affected by the system previously mentioned, with continued light to moderate rain. A weak front will drop southeast into northern British Isles late Thursday and move through the rest of the British Isles Friday, triggering scattered rain showers.

In the northern Europe, unsettled weather is anticipated over the next few days as a series of systems move southeast across the Scandinavia and northwestern Russia.

High pressure holds over the eastern Mediterranean Sea, providing warm and dry weather.

Monsoon rains approaching Myanmar

Dr. Jeff Masters

The weather in the region ravaged by Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar has taken a turn for the better today, after a low pressure system that brought heavy rains and 20-30 mph winds yesterday weakened and moved off to the north. This system appeared to be a threat to develop into a tropical depression yesterday, but interaction with land is hindering its development, and the low is no longer expected to become a tropical depression.
