Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, July 19, 2008.

A trough will remain over Europe and continue to produce cloudy and rainy conditions across the continent on Saturday. The British Isles can expect to see light to moderate rain through most of the day on Saturday. However, the rainfall should taper off by the end of the day as the batch of rain moves eastward. The rainy conditions will move over northern France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium by noon, and last for the rest of the day. Austria, the Czech Republic, and western Poland can expect the wet weather to arrive later in the day on Saturday, but most of the rain in that region should be light. The heaviest of the rainfall will move onto the Scandinavian Peninsula by midmorning, and Norway especially will see some very heavy rain. The wet conditions over the region are expected to last into Sunday.

Meanwhile, a front associated with the trough will extend from Italy, through Ukraine and Belarus, and into western Russia on Saturday, triggering a line of heavy rain and storms will form along the front. The heaviest rain along the front will be located in Eastern Europe. Spain, Portugal, and southern France will remain mostly dry due to high pressure.

The temperatures will remain fairly cool across most of the continent due to all of the rain on Saturday, with highs only reaching the teens and low 20s. Parts of Spain and Portugal will reach 40, while the areas of Eastern Europe that are ahead of the front will reach the 30s.

Charleston, SC long range radar shows the slow development of a solid spiral band of thunderstorms to the southeast of the center, away from land. The storm is over waters of marginal warmth, about 27°C, a degree above the threshold of 26°C needed to sustain a tropical storm. The warm waters are very shallow, and the Tropical Cyclone Heat Potential is near zero, meaning we're unlikely to see rapid i...
