Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Monday, June 17, 2013.

Wet and unsettled weather continued for parts of the East and South on Monday as a cold front dropped southeastward from southern Canada into the Midwest and Northeast. Rain showers and chances of thunderstorm activity accompanied this disturbance in parts of the Great Lakes into the Northeast. South of this disturbance areas of scattered showers and thunderstorms developed from the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast through the Central and Southern Plains. Impulses from from the West enhanced precipitation from parts of southeastern Kansas into northeastern Texas and Arkansas and also created the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms in parts of the Central and Southern High Plains. The Storm Prediction Center issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development through from the afternoon through tonight. While the main concerns with these storms are isolated areas of hail and damaging wind gusts, a few isolated tornadoes were also possible.

Out West, an upper level low located off the Pacific Northwest coast kicked up areas of showers in Washington as it neared the coast.

Nowcast as of 10:58 PM EDT on June 17, 2013
Showers and storms will push off the Volusia coast and rains will gradually end. But additional showers and storms will lift northeast into Osceola County and may develop into southern and eastern Orange and Brevard counties as boundary collisions continue and areas of instability get worked over. Frequent lightning strikes and heavy rain with gusty winds up to 45 mph will be the primary threats the rest of the night.
