Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, May 23, 2013. A strong, large storm will continue making its way through the eastern third of the country on Thursday, producing more, active weather east of the Mississippi Valley. While the active weather is not likely to produce the severe thunderstorms that have greeted the country over the past several days, scattered thunderstorms will be likely, especially in the Southeast. In addition, moderate to occasionally heavy rain will move through the Northeast, followed by cool showers in the Ohio Valley and Upper Midwest.

Meanwhile, some moisture pushing into the Southern Plains could possibly instigate some severe thunderstorms in northern Texas and western Oklahoma. Due to this possibility, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather in the area for Thursday. This means residents in the area should prepare as if severe weather will develop, making any necessary preparations to protect life and property.

Also, a seasonably strong low pressure system will linger over the Pacific Northwest today, allowing wet weather to continue in the area. While rain will be the overwhelming precipitation due to this storm, a few snow showers will be possible in the higher elevations of the Cascades.

Additionally, rain will also spread as far east as central Montana.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Southwest will see similar temperatures.

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from midnight
tonight to noon MDT Friday for elevations above 5500 feet...

A Winter Weather Advisory for elevations above 5500 feet for snow
remains in effect from midnight tonight to noon MDT Friday for
elevations above 5500 feet.

* Timing and main impact: light rain will fall over the Rocky
Mountain front this evening. The rain will gradually change to
snow for elevations above 5500 feet after midnight. Above 6000
feet... the snow may be heavy at times late tonight through
Friday morning.

* Snow accumulations: total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches is
expected over maris pass... while above 6000 feet isolated
amounts of 10 to 15 inches are expected.

* Visibility: visibilities could be reduced to less than one
half mile at times.

* Elevations: for elevations above 5500 feet.

* Other impacts: periods of snow will affect Marias Pass on
Highway 2 later tonight through Friday... but the most
significant snowfall is expected near ridge tops. Travelers
should expect reduced visibilities and slush buildup on the
roadway late tonight through Friday morning. Those venturing to
elevations above 6000 feet in Glacier National Park and in the
bob Marshall wilderness areas should be prepared for winter
conditions.

* Locations affected include: Marias Pass.
