A hole punch cloud at sunrise this morning. They form in cirrocumulus or altocumulus clouds that are below freezing, but the water has not frozen yet. Then when a portion of the water does start to freeze, it will set off a domino effect, causing the water vapor around it to freeze and fall. Scientists do not quite know how they start, but they do seem linked to airplanes. I have a theory as to how they start: Sound from an airplane hits the supercooled water droplets and causes them to freeze. Does that sound plausible?
