Thanks Elaine; I think the blue sky and the wet ice came together at the right moment! As you remark, there's hardly any snow to be found around Winnipeg(but don't hold your breath: this IS Manitoba, after all)

Bill, this is a lovely photo, but I have questions: what is a "Glaswegian"??? Also, what is the history of this sturdy-looking bridge? Is it still functional? Is it a bridge that opens for boat traffic? Julie in Ohio

A Glaswegian is a native of the city of Glasgow in Scotland.
The bridge is a long-abandoned railway bridge, Julie(the old railbed is a favourite walking place)
Tourist boats pass through the spans (if the water is not too high)in the summer.
