I know what you mean - born in raised in SOCAL before moving north, so this was really a surprise to open and find out where it was taken. Love it.

Foreboding, creepy and dramatic! And was the sky really such an unsettling greenish color? I know that in really bad weather, the sky often gets greenish (anyone know why?)

Ominous and very dramatic weather photo. I hope you were out of harms way, if these clouds produced any dangerous lightening or a tornado.

Thank you everyone! This shot was captured yesterday as I was driving home from a 2 week photo trip through the Southwest. When I was in east LA area, the storm hit and this cloud produced hail and an amazing lightning show. A few ground-to-cloud strikes each minute. I tried to capture the bolts, but I need a "lightning trigger" for day-time lightning in order to get those shots. I am actually a big fan of lightning photography, I have a pretty large collection of lightning shots that I have captured in So CA. www.LianesLightroom.com (lightning gallery folder)

Cheers! Liane

About the green color: that comes from ice in the cloud--from the hail that gets churned around in a big storm then finally dumped when it's too big to fly. How big is too big? Depends on the winds. Baseball size hail isn't big enough to get in the record books.

Tornado survivors often mention how the sky turned a sickly green color before the twister came through.
