I think this is a Lesser Yellowlegs. The sandpiper's legs aren't this yellow.

Nice Max! Aren't they interesting birds? I was shocked and excited to find out that we have sandpipers in the middle of the country (with no oceans nearby)! I wonder if it is the same kind (Upland Sandpiper)...http://www.wunderground.com/wximage/t amcat/502?gallery=

It's a Lesser Yellowlegs. They are in the sandpiper family, but should not be in IA this time of year; should be much farther north by now....BTW, the Spotted Sandpiper has yellow legs too....as do the Upland Sandpiper, Buff-breasted Sandpiper and the Ruff. This bird is the wrong coloration overall for an Upland Sandpiper and the head shape isn't correct, either.

Thank you so much for correcting me. I'm really learning a lot from my Wunderground friends.
