Don't remember seeing bald eagles when I lived in OR. Are they more common there now?

Thanks so much. The eagles have been increaseing in this area. They used to just winter here but now we have many residents. This day I saw over 20 individuals. I have never seen them stay after the turkey vultures arrive but here they were all taking opportunities. It is wonderful to see these birds. The farmers now put bald eagle decoys in the fields to discourage the canadian geese who can devour an early grass seed crop very quickly. I have been trying to get good shots for a while, I see much more than I have been able to capture. They like their distance and if they are seen from a well traveled road, my camera can attract attention also which spooks them away. This was a good day, on a dirt road and in range of my lens.
Thanks again everyone!

A 10 from me also. What were they eating? In the Texas Hill Country, golden eagles will take new-born lambs and kids.

Thank you. They were eating a sheep. The sheep drop from illness or getting stuck in the mud and the eagles are carian eaters here. Usually when the turkey vultures come back for summer the eagles leave but this year many have stayed. They are fish eaters and have seen them nab live ducks and geese but never killed a sheep.

About Olbetsy
Olbetsy I am somewhat new to photography. I purchased a digital camera in 2003 and the hobby swiftly took hold. My camera gets me out and about and has enhanced all my senses to find what this world has to offer. I am also a quilt artist and I use my photography to help me understand color and form that can transfer into quilt art. I am an active member of Emerald Photographic Society and was honored as most promising photographer in 2007 and photographer of the year in 2008. I have recently had images published in National Geographic and the National Wildlife refuge library. There are three contributors to my success. I carry my camera (s) with me most of the time and I committed to shooting at least 100 images a day. I anticipate everything but expect nothing. Most importatly I have grown to appreciate fellow photographers for insights, tips and all around friendship as much as the hobby itself. I love to see through the eyes of others and WU is a favorite place to visit. I am inspired by the talent found here and have a never ending itch to travel and learn!
