It's amazing how such a careless incident can wreak havoc with so many lives! This is a a good picture of the start - before the devastation. Hope all remain safe, and the law enforcement can crack down on this dreadful practice before more fires are started.

From the press:

SARATOGA SPRINGS %u2014 Residents of at least 1,500 homes in northern Utah were being evacuated Friday after high winds kicked up a fire started by target shooters.

The roughly 4,000-acre blaze started Thursday near the Saratoga Springs landfill, about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. High winds then helped fan the flames onto tinder-dry grasslands.

@kennebunker, I'm wondering, could you please explain how this was a, "careless incident?" Are you saying the target shooters intended to cause a fire?

Just curious, perhaps you meant to phrase it, differently?

Oh dear, too bad this happened. I'll bet the target shooters feel really bad. Unfortunate preventable incident.
