Yellow Bird of Paradise. These small trees are so gorgeous! The red stamen are over 3 inches long. Since these only bloom for about a month, Tucson residents tend to prefer the Red Bird of Paradise which blooms from May through November.

I sure am enjoying your desert flower shots, Doug! I go there in the winter but don't get to see all these bloom. My mother, who spent more time in AZ than I, once gave me some seeds of the red bird of paradise bush, and one came up and eventually did bloom for me, though it didn't live a long life in the pot where I had it. Wouldn't have survived a North Carolina winter outdoors, either.

Update: Congrats on your AC!

Superb series of wonderful flowers. Can't say that I ever remember seeing these, but you can bet I'll be on the lookout next time I'm in AZ. Kudos, and congratulations on the Blue Border!

Congratulations on your AC. I have a yellow bird of paradise here in Texas but I prefer the red ones like I had in Tucson. I loved your whole series of photos.
