Sorry to see this. I got a few shots of this from 35,000 feet. The magnitude of the smoke was awesome. In one area the smoke blended with he clouds in an eerie sight.o. Nice event serirs

thanks everybody - the wind has shifted this morning so we're a bit more clear, still sooooo much smoke...last nite they reported over 900 lightning strikes with Shasta Co being the hardest hit (we live in Shasta Co) The hughe 'cloud' was awesome, I've never seen anything quite like it -
If you have pics, I'd love to see them RNJoel and thanks again for commenting.

thanks everybody!!! we're still a little eerie over here, but nothing like last nite - hopefully things have settled down - this smoke appears to have come from the Manton, Shinlgetown area - maybe 50 miles to our east as the crow flies (or the smoke)

Beautiful pictures, wish it was not a fire. We are starting to get smokey again and you can smell it in the air.

Beautiful! I love how the smoke makes everything look golden. The trees and grass look so vulnerable
to the fire that is so close, which is obvious. Hope everything goes well.

My eyes read this as a Frederick Church painting before I clicked to the larger image. The quality of the light is so reminiscent of the Hudson River School, but this is of course the record of sad and frightening reality. Thanks for capturing the moment.

things are calming down a bit this evening - still lots and lots of smoke - I know Mt Shasta is over there somewhere, but can't be seen from here :( the fires are somewhat contained but still burning with some fury - hopefully, the wind hasn't caused them to flare up.......thanks for all the kind thoughts and notes, I'll keep you posted.

thanks for all the nice comment Debbie! a little update, this fire - Ponderosa, has flared up and become more violent. Our smoke level has risen rapidly in the last 36 hours - not pretty, just thick blue smoke.....best of everything to our hard working firefighters!!!
