We sure have, Gary -- I heard the thing pass overhead just at the time the newspaper article said it had hit that area, which is not far from our house -- much too close for comfort! Its pathway was aimed right at our house; if it hadn't lifted, ours might have looked like this one, or worse...

Thanks for your comments, Gil and Tim -- wish I could have gotten more shots; there was plenty of subject matter, but I was with two people who were tired and didn't have time for an unscheduled photo shoot! Maybe I can go back tomorrow, alone.

Jarrus, there has been a crew working there day by day to clean up the mess. In our rural area, most houses have wells and septic tanks rather than city water and sewer. If the power is out, there is no water either because the pumps are electrically powered. That probably explains the porta-potty.

Thanks, Lori, you're welcome to the snow! I think we're done with THAT for this spring, but hail and other violent weather are endemic in our neck of the woods this time of year. This weekend marked the 22nd anniversary of my husband's and my first visit to Winston-Salem, where he was interviewing for the job he still has today. One place we toured was Old Salem, the historic district just south of downtown Winston, where I photographed many old trees that had been there for ages. Not long after our trip, a tornado leveled a good many of them, which will take decades to grow back anything like what they were.
