This is a RED Azalea, but they pretty much come out on the magenta side. I've tried increasing/reducing the in camera saturation where the red will get redder/deeper or disappear but the pink/magenta remains. I have found reducing the aperture helps a little but there is always the pink/purple...Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Nikon P510...Other than this I really like my new camera (but I have much to learn).:)

Red flowers are difficult to photograph; mine usually turn out washed out in color and more pink than red, as you say. I'm sure more knowledgeable people can give you better advice on camera settings, but what I have found helps is to take the photo on a cloudy day or at dusk when the light is low, to cut contrast, and then I use my editing program not to increase saturation but to darken the picture. That generally gives me my best results. The photo of the glad I took yesterday is an example; it IS rather pinkish but this treatment made it look redder than it did to the naked eye.

Thank you ChrisAnthemum. I figured it might be inherent. (It was a pink to orange shift with my old camera). I've tried dusk and dark shade but I never thought about the changing the contrast.

You can also try working with your white balance. Even something as simple as setting the camera to 'cloudy' will take out the blue cast, and add more warm tones.

Thank you Lori. white balance at auto2 (warm) helps as does the contrast. Thanks to both of you.

About noneinc
noneinc I Initially said I don't comment much but I found myself commenting a lot. I was never happy with just saying "Nice shot" "Very nice" "Great shot" etc so I decided to leave the comments to the pros. You all say it so much better. Thank you all for your kind comments and I will continue to view and rate and occasionally add my 2 cents
