This is a panorama of 3 vertically-oriented pics of last evening's rainbow show. SORRY--- I grabbed the camera so quickly, not remembering to turn the ISO setting down from 1600... thus the noise. Lesson learned- always use the lowest ISO possible

Watervliet, a Dutch name. A vliet is channel that is draining the water of a windmill. A windmill collect water from the low "polder" land and sends it to a lake or see via a "Vliet". Sometimes also called a molen(mill)vliet.

Oh, it is so perfect. I keep waiting and watching for a perfect rainbow, heck, I would be satisfied with an imperfect one.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'm still kicking myself over the grainy 1600 ISO setting. Once in a lifetime rainbow messed up, all because I was taking pictures indoors earlier and I like natural light.

This area of NY state was originally settled by the Dutch in the early 1600s, and many of the original dutch names were later replaced with English (the most famous name-change was "New Amsterdam" being changed to "New York"). Watervliet stuck with the original Dutch. We do have lots of rivers/creeks ending in "-kills" here (Dutch for "creeks" or "rivers")

About walcek
walcek Photography has always been a hobby since I saved up babysitting and lawn-mowing earnings for my first SLR back in the 70s as a young kid. I like the random, beautiful things that most overlook in today's hectic pace.
